Heine Otto played for Boro as little as 9 years after this game, when he was often the only player ion our side who looked like he'd ever seen a football before. He was once exhorted by the inevtable Bloke Behind Me to "Come on Heine, do something Dutch!". Those were desperate times and he was the one bright spot in the sea of darkness which preceded bankruptcy. We loved him, but he was a one-cap Oranje and there were surely other, more illustrious Dutchmen playing in the Football League during that period, weren't there?

I sympathise with the arguments. As far as I'm concerned, the international breaks are simply hiccups in the season. I'd rather watch my team play a friendly than bother about an England match. However, international games are the only opportunity people in many poor countries will ever have to see the players who are their compatriots and whose early education and training they often helped pay for through their taxes live and in the flesh. To prevent that would be a piece of crass colonialism.
