Would you drive your car down the middle of train tracks? It's kind of dangerous so probably not. So, why drive your bike down the middle of the road and not off to the side?
There are now states in this country that have passed laws directing cyclists to give way to motorists. Do we really need to be told to get out of the way of cars and trucks? And keep in mind that most of us ride as a sport and not as a means of transportation.
I know as a group we should be smarter than that, and as cyclists it would say a lot about our sport were we to have far better manners than to hog the road. That's in my humble opinion and as it happens the view of the good people at Global Cycling Network.
+Kevin Hunter I agree that there might be a risk of degreasing packed in chain grease except if you take a look at one of the more well used gadgets for cleaning a chain that runs the chain though a bath of a solvent based degreaser with brushes and compare it to my technique I think you may agree my approach seems far less likely to cause harm. Thanks for your observation, which I considered as well.
