‘Please accept my resignation,’ Groucho Marx once said. ‘I don’t want to belong to any club that will have people like me as a member.’ It was in September 1995, in the Groucho Club, a famous London media hangout, that two men had a conversation that would lead to the conception of a very different club – a club dedicated to safeguarding the future of the world’s oceans. Read on to find out how the MSC and the sustainable seafood movement were born 20 years ago now and what progress has been made to safeguard our oceans http://20-years.msc.org/

‘The MSC is just a tool. Ultimately, leadership comes from the fisheries who expose themselves to very public process, civil society and market players...’ Meet Rupert Howes, CEO of the MSC in this Deep Dive into the MSC's story http://via.msc.org/b85B30b7uKL

To celebrate 20 years since the creation of the MSC, Dan Brotzel, content director and co-founder of content agency Sticky Content, part of thePress Association, wrote this compelling story. Dan, an experienced magazine journalist and former columnist at the Sunday Express newspaper in the UK, said: “The sustainable seafood movement is something we can all get behind, and it has made huge strides in the last 20 years. But it would never have got off the ground at all without the rigour and tenacity of organisations like the MSC. They worked tirelessly to unite a really complex set of different interest groups – fisheries, wholesalers, retailers, NGOs, scientists, marine experts, chefs, philanthropists and of course consumers – and galvanise them all in pursuit of a shared goal that all can benefit from, regardless of their differences. In carrying out all the interviews we did to tell the highs and lows of this complex and fascinating story, I was constantly impressed by the passion, dedication and expertise of those involved with the MSC and the beginnings of the sustainable seafood movement.” http://20-years.msc.org/
