The 2015 season at Budworth Sailing Club
The Icebreaker kicks off the season on Sunday March 15th, followed by the “Icebreaker Social” on Saturday March 21st (please RSVP to Ali Cormack by March 16 th. The Main Points series commences on both Saturday and Sunday, the 4th and 5th April. As this is also Easter, Monday the 6th is the Easter Regatta too.
The format of Saturdays has been tweaked. There are still three races, but now with the first race designated a practice race, with race 2 and 3 counting to the series. On Saturdays when the Start to Race course is running club coaches will be on hand throughout the day to give advice to those who would like it.
The sailing season has been tweaked a little too – more Wednesdays and Tuesdays (they start earlier in the year), a longer Summer Series to help us all qualify and still go on holiday, and the Autumn Open series running right up to the Sunday before Christmas.
During June, July and August Friday evening’s Cruising Not Racing continues for lazy summer evenings on the Mere – bring something to put on the B-B-Q.
We have a number of special events planned throughout the year to break up the usual series:
Easter Monday Regatta
Random Pairs Team Racing Saturday 27th June – a fun form of team racing open to all club members where teams are not required – just turn up with your helm/ crew and join in. It does not matter how inexperienced you are, this is the best and most fun way to have a go at Team Racing
The Annual Club Open Day, Saturday 9th May – invite your friends and show them what a wonderful club it is to be part of
Commodores Regatta on Sunday 30th August – Budworth’s highlight of the club sailing calendar where we all get to sail against each other for the club trophies
Driver Trophy on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August – this year the interfleet team event is back in Fireflys for “proper” team racing. So Fleets, pick your team and let the spectator sport begin
Racing for the Philpot Pursuit Trophy Sunday 25th October – pursuit racing for the club’s newest trophy
Budworth Pairs, 21st and 22nd November – the long awaited return of this famous Open event. Lots of furious team racing from some of the best sailors around, fabulous spectator viewing, lots of beer in the bar après sailing (and almost undoubtedly during too!)
And of course the Boxing Day Budworth Bash to round the year off in style
This year we also have planned a series of Club Invite days, when your class can invite other sailors of your class from across the region to join in club racing on a Sunday. See your Fleet Captain for details.
And lastly the usual round of class Open Meetings scattered through the year.
We hope to see you ALL on the water, having fun.

Autumn is with us, and so the Autumn sailing series starts on Sunday 2nd November with a club event of two pursuit races, racing for the new "Philpot Trophy", which is very elegant!.

Great couple of weeks for the club recently! Over 40 members took part in the Southport 24Hour endurance race, and won some trophies! Also nearly 60 boats and 90 people took part in Bart's Bash. Great to see so much activity in the club!

Saturday 10th May 2014 - Budworth Visitors Open Day. Come and visit us to find out about our club. You can also have a trial sail on the lake with an experienced club helm!

Sailing will resume in mid-March 2014 - see our web site event calendar  for details!

Budworth "A" and "B" teams sailing in the 24 Hour race at Southport. The "A" team achieved a best ever SECOND place, while the"B" team matched last years 15th place, also a creditable result. Budworth were the only club to enter 3 boats in the Race!
