Some updates from my small balcony garden...

1 - Capsicum (Bell pepper) : Not a healthy looking plant. Could grow it in completely reflected sunlight, no direct sunlight. A little of filtered sunlight could have helped it grow faster but I can't help since this is a 'No-sun' period in my balcony. The lone plant could not recover from Calcium deficiency. You can see the curly older leaves. Added egg shell powder and lime but a little late adding them. No new leaf growth as the energy seem to be spent in growing the capsicum fruits.

2 - Mint : Latest new growth in my hanging pot after I grew few more from cuttings. I over-watered the previous batch which killed them. I did several harvests out of the previous batch though.

3,4,5 - Ladies' finger/Okra : Flowering and fruiting started in 3 of these plants. Love the wonderful color of the flower. My son loves Okra in Sambar. And I would get him harvest them when they are ready.

6-Round White radish: Tried this for the first time. Only 2 survived. I should have spaced them apart. One on the right has a good bulky root growth, the other appears smaller.

7 - Brinjal/Egg Plant: Could not conclude which variety it is from the fruit. I guess it should be a vari brinjal. Earlier I thought it was the Big balloon variety. I had sown 3 varieties but failed to label them during transplant.

8,9 - Coriander leaves/Cilantro: Before/After the first harvest. I thinned out a bit. I just used seeds from the kitchen counter, but it seems to be an early bolting variety. Started flowering just after 3-4 weeks. A good attraction for bees though. Can someone suggest a fragrant, but slow bolting variety ? Good if it would be a good desi variety instead of the 'not-so-fragrant' hybrid ones. If you can help me with the seeds too, it would be great.

Some updates from my small balcony garden...

1. Long brinjal (egg plant) bloom
2. Hyacinth bean flowers and bean pods. The plants just recovered from spider mite attack.
3. Cauliflowers getting bigger day by day. Top foliage could not cover enough. Tried using plastic mesh that came with vegetable order online, as the blanching technique. More sunlight in my balcony these days.
4. A cosmos bloom.
5. This volunteer tomato plant came alongside my Rose plant. Not a great idea as both of them are heavy feeders. Will uproot after tomatoes stop producing.

Baby cauliflowers in the making...

On the first one the baby flower is clearly visible. I believe there's one on the second plant too, but it appears well covered by the foliage.

How long does the flower take to mature typically ?

The 3rd plant appears to be awaiting right conditions to bloom.

Long Brinjal (Egg plants) doing well.

Kept them covered to save young plants getting drenched in excess rain.

Monsoon had been battering Bangalore this week.

Almost dried up brittled appearance on Hyacinth bean leaves.

What does this mean? Is there any remedy? The new leaves that form also have the same issue. Seen on 3 new plants which are the 2nd generation. The 1st gen plant is producing well and does not have the issue.
