Venus and Child - a sculpture in memory of the 24 cocklers lost in Morecambe Bay a few years ago.  It is a stunning piece, and very powerful when you know it's reason for being where it is, and remember the families of those lost in that tragedy.

Hadrian's Wall from Today.

The project plan has changed  slightly - I am going to refine the concept from a general scattergun of everything in Low Furness and focus on ancient and archaeological features/landscapes/remains.  I will also increase the scope to the whole of Furness initially, before perhaps encompassing all of Cumbria.

I am also having thoughts of a similar project covering Morecambe Bay....

Just got a copy of "The Passionate Photographer".  Apparently it is very good, so I am looking forward to getting stuck into it.  Hopefully it may offer some useful concepts for starting the projects!

Lowick Church on the edge of the Lake District National Park this evening.

The first project is starting to take some semblance of shape - I am planning to start photographing the people and places of the Low Furness Peninsula.  Still not sure on the final output whether it should be in book form or a gallery display... or both... all depends on finding venues and publishing options once I get that far (which may take a while).

Any suggestions are welcome for either content or output are most welcome.

One from today.  There is a bit of a lack of inspiration when the day is like this!
8th June 2012

Another wet day in the Lake District....

The new set up is continuing to take shape - the last of the Canon kit should be getting picked up tomorrow, checked over, and then I will be getting in return:

Nikon SB800 Flashgun
Nikon D7000 Body
Nikon 18-105VR (to suit... figured I should probably have a normal lens for the spare body!)
Nikon 300mm f4 (to become my wildlife option on the D7000)

This will add to the current kit:

Nikon D800E
Nikon 14-24 f2.8
Nikon 24-70 f2.8
Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR

The D7000 option also gives me a lighter weight set up when needed, as well as a spare set up/second camera when shooting weddings.

Still required:

Nikon 1.4 Teleconverter
Macro lens of some sort - not decided which as yet!
Nikon 50mm f1.4
Nikon 85mm f1.4 or 1.8
At least one more flash with wireless capability (but probably several more!)

And in my dreams a long, fast telephoto... but not unless I start making serious inroads into wildlife photography, they are just too rich for my blood!
