Some Very Cool Things Are Happening in the Informix World
I read two interesting things this week. One was an award that Informix won and the other is a White Paper Bloor put out. Both reference Informix as a platform for IoT or Internet of Things data storage and processing. First, on July 14, 2016 at the annual ...

Yup.  ALl new databases in China will be Informix databases.  That kind of answers the FUD talk about Informix being a dead end product.  No?

It is the middle days of Passover week and I am trying to squeak some work out between the first Seder days and the coming Sabbath. Part of that I am making final preparations to go down to Miami to the 2014 IIUG Conference. ...

LVARCHAR not long enough?
I've got some news for you!  If you had been to the IIUG 2015 Conference last week (April 26-30 2015) you might already know this.  If not, relax, 'cause I was there. Question: Have you ever had a requirement for a character type that can hold strings longe...

In my belligerent-canine vocabulary the word "Normalisation" is no longer in use, along with "Primary Key Column", "Foreign Key Column, and utter bilge-pump- terms such as "Subscripted Arrays", BSON. // Did the originators of these empty expressions also add new operators in Arithmetic, so complement "Add", "Subtract", "Multiply" and "Divide"? // In my very sincere view this will come out in the wash, or not, over the next 5 to 10 years... and if it does, then every Information Management System written around Ted Codd's Relational Model in the first place will then be conceptually and practically obsolete. // The first ever working application, BaSSIS, that illustrates this, now goes with me on my laptop / server - Subrelations are now Classified (14 ways) by logical purpose, and the two KEY Subrelations have NAMES "The Identifiers Allocation Subrelation", and "The Subrelations Subrelation". // One you have seen and assimilated those two, then your thinking will be enhanced forever. // The Subrelations Subrelation has evolved, via my Identifiers, from "systables" ... Subrelation NAMES are freely updateable, and have spaces and capitals .. the IMMUTABLE IDENTIFIER of the Subrelations Subrelation is "RPIE". The Allocation Subrelation has IMMUTABLE IDENTIFIER "FIIB", and MY Identifier is "AAUD". /// End of Rant .... with best wishes, and I'm sincere there - it's good to chat ... to decent and sincere people.
