Comets have a hydrogen atmosphere, the coma. Tons are produced every second. I do not understand the postulated source of the hydrogen. Does it originate on the surface, or is it entirely captured solar wind?

Periodic comets are consistently dimmer on each return visit.  The mainstream explanation is that it is running out of volatiles; is there an alternate explanation?

Moving through the suns electric field may cause the comet to neutralize and react less with the Sun on each subsequent pass.

If Halley's and other long period comets did not originate in deep space, how did they acquire orbits of extreme inclinations and eccentricity?
