Comets have a hydrogen atmosphere, the coma. Tons are produced every second. I do not understand the postulated source of the hydrogen. Does it originate on the surface, or is it entirely captured solar wind?

Moving through the suns electric field may cause the comet to neutralize and react less with the Sun on each subsequent pass.

If Halley's and other long period comets did not originate in deep space, how did they acquire orbits of extreme inclinations and eccentricity?
