Sometimes I zone out so hard while editing Blogs on Tape that I'm certain I've left flubbed lines and retakes in episodes before, and ya'll are just too polite to tell me.

I watched the first four episodes of Black Mirror.

The pig fucking episode was pretty good, though it was too heavy handed introducing the series' theme. Dude veritably looks at the camera when he says "It's on YouTube!" A fun story with nothing terribly meaningful to say. Also, fucking a pig would be awful, but nowhere near as awful as they act.

The talent show episode is the best of the lot. It actually has some meaningful stuff to say about how systems break people down and maintain control. It's Hot Topic anarchy T-Shirt: the movie, plus it makes great points about advertisement as well. That said, it was way too long. Cut out 10-20 minutes and you've got a more solid story.

The memory rewinding episode was dumb. The story was one-note, and could have been told more effectively in half the time. The worldbuilding felt slapdash: it simultaneously showed a world where this technology had been ubiquitous for the character's whole lives, and yet very basic social issues haven't been worked out. Also, the ending was stupid. The character didn't earn their final revelation. They should have been left eternally replaying their memories until they died in a gutter.

The grief episode was...odd. It ultimately had a neat conclusion, but the worldbuilding also felt a little slapdash. In order to accept the reality of the world you have to accept that people in the future are kinda dumb. Adult Swim did this concept better with their "Live Forever as You Are Now" short.

No matter how good the episodes I haven't seen are, this show really doesn't deserve the wild praise I hear from people. It's overall just not that smart or clever of a show. That said, I do enjoy the vignette format, so I may yet watch more of it.

People act as though making deals with devils is so damned dangerous. Devils are an embodiment of cosmic law. They’re constitutionally incapable of breaking their word. So long as you don’t agree to something stupid, you’re fine. Making deals with demons is a whole other thing. It takes a particularly self destructive kind of crazy to become a warlock.

Pixar's Coco is a story about an abused child who learns the importance of submitting to abuse.

Later, his family incidentally decides they don't want to abuse him anymore.

Chicken Breasts stress me out. I always used to just cook the shit out of them to be safe, but now I've got an instant read thermometer. I can poke the meat a few times and easily check whether I've hit that USDA safety temperature.

But the taste and texture of it just feels wrong.
