There is a great misconception in much of Christianity that God actively controls everything that happens on earth today. This wrong "God is in control" theology comes from a misunderstanding of what the concept of the sovereignty of God actually means.

According to the Bible, God's sovereignty means something very different. Yes, God is the ultimate source of power and authority. He created and continues to sustain the universe and everything in it. At the very beginning of time he set in place various laws and boundaries with his word. That word can never be violated or he would cease to be God.

Therefore once God created and established everything he was himself bound by his own word.

And that's where things get turned all around for the "God is in control" crowd. It's a huge topic that creates massive problems for a significant portion of the Christian world. So I wrote a rather long article to explain how the Bible clearly shows that God is not, in fact, controlling everything that happens in our world today. You can read through it here:

Had an interesting first today. Started to tell a story to someone as part of an explanation and they said, "Yeah. I read about that in your book."

It was humbling to have a conversation with someone who not only purchased my book, but actually read and remembered what I wrote in it. Plus it made it much easier to answer their question. 😀

So if you didn't know, I wrote a book about how to reach more people and build an audience online through your website and social media. You can get it on Amazon here: http://cree.link/ChurchWebsitesAZ

It is vital that we learn God's character as believers. This is especially critical when come up against life's challenges.

This was what set Moses apart from the people of Israel. Moses knew God's character. Therefore Moses followed God consistently.

In contrast, the rest of the nation of Israel there with Moses only knew God's miracles and his actions. They were not willing to get to know God's character. Therefore they constantly wavered, rebelled, and suffered consequences as a result.

Psalms 103:7 says it this way:

He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the children of Israel.

Unfortunately most Christians are more like the Israelites than they are like Moses when it comes to knowing God's character. They lack intimacy and focus on what God does instead of his character and who he is. As a result a great many believers are ruled by fear instead of peace.

This is probably the biggest source of powerlessness and hopelessness within the church today.

Make the effort to learn God's character and his nature. Learn His ways. Miracles are great. But until you know intimately know the miracle worker you will be like the Israelites - double minded, inconsistent, and mostly making fear based decisions.

Works All For Our Good - Romans 8:28
God works everything out for our good, never causing bad stuff to happen to us. He turns our lemons into sweet lemonade, but does not hand out lemons.

Our Prosperity Pleases God - Psalms 35:27
Prosperity here is the Hebrew word shalom. It means safe, well, happy, friendly, health, prosperity, and peace. God takes pleasure when we experience all that.
