If you want to change your default keyboard layout in mint, finding the setting is easy enough, but it will only apply to that user. This makes logging on complicated if only a certain keyboard is attached (forcing you to close your eyes and touch type qwerty). So I've edited /etc/default/keyboard to contain the following:

XKBMODEL="pc105"
XKBLAYOUT="us"
XKBVARIANT=",dvorak"
XKBOPTIONS="grp:ctrl_shift_toggle"

with examples in /usr/share/doc/keyboard-configuration/examples/keyboard

I installed the bumblebee Nvidia drivers in Mint Linux this evening by following this guide: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/766 . What they left out is the usage information, which I found here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee#Installation . Similar to how in Windows 8, you would right click and run an app with your NV chip, in llinux on the command line you start with optirun. I was impressed comparing the Intel 3d chip frame rates to Nvidia using glxgears and glxspheres.  I also installed primus, which is run by 'optirun -b primus <command>' but I'm not too clear on what it does yet. You can also use primusrun instead of optirun. I'm not sure what the benefits are because it seems to have similar frame rates to the Intel Ivycore, but I may be hurting its performance by running it in a compositing windowed environment.

The latest version of the Fedora Live Install (anaconda) is broken.  I can't get past the first screen of installation where the install language is selected.  There seem to be a lot of bug discussions out there, and some are closed.

Basically whatever language I select, I get:
TypeError: Argument 1 does not allow None as a value

And cannot advance.

Same bug as this https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=957819 but I have no WWAN hardware and the resolution doesn't fix it.

The ff part was just a blur, but the disco party was worth watching to the end. How'd you stay so quiet while filming? Commentary would've been cool.

By default, Linux Mint tries to be cute make you use Duck Duck Go rather than Google in built in firefox search bars. Possibly with a good reason. They offer a roundabout way to add it back in, but their xml file is wrong so that it doesn't provide suggestions.

The xml file from mint uses this:
<os:Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="http://www.google.com/search?q={searchTerms}">

whereas a working file contains this:

<Url type="application/x-suggestions+json" method="GET" template="https://www.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox&amp;q={searchTerms}"/>
<Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="https://www.google.com/search">

among some other differences. It seems like the best thing to do is to copy the xml file from the real firefox distribution.

I am writing this to warn others. They bleached a $60 shirt ruining it, shrunk a few others and pants. I think they do not actually dry clean, but launder with heat. They refuse to compensate with anything other than credit. After getting my clothes back smelling terrible, like they were pressed in hot saliva, I just can't go back. The women who work the counter are very nice.
