Gleaned from "Sefer Shmiras HaLoshon" (Book of Guarded Speech): Even if one has become overcome by his evil inclination so that forbidden talk pours from his lips carelessly, through proper study and review of the relevant laws of righteous speech, a dramatic change for the better can occur. However, such sensitivity is exceedingly weakened through habitual involvement in idle talk. As the Sages state, "For thy [words] are life to those who express them with their mouths." (Eruvin 54a) Thus once again, we are exhorted to learn the importance of speaking OUT LOUD powerful words of life!

Most of Jesus' disciples were not highly educated Bible scholars like Saul/Paul. Except for learned men such as Rabbi Nicodemus and high-born religious men such as John the Baptist, most of the disciples were simple laymen--fishermen, tax collector, etc. Although all were Jewish, the original disciples were prophetic of the Gentile Age--"not many noble" (1 Cor. 1:26). Paul, being a scholar and intellectual, but also a "Johnny-come-lately," was prophetic of the time after the Gentile Age when the Orthodox Jews and the Jewish nation in general will embrace Messiah Yeshua.
Paul wrote in 1 Cor. 15:8, "and last of all He appeared to me also, as to one untimely born," as if it were a handicap. Yes, Paul suffered as an apostolic "outsider," but his commissioning at a later date was truly significant and prophetic!

The Biblical prohibition of "loshon hora," is the sin of derogatory, harmful speech. "Rechilius" is the second form of loshon hora, meaning literally "peddling" gossip. A third form is slander, and a fourth type is "onaas devarim," defined as "painful words." The Bible also warns us about anger, arrogance, deceit, lying and flattery. The Lord has given us laws of speech, mainly the commandment to guard our tongues. Let our mouths be full of his praise today!
