Angie's List seemed like a great idea, in the early days of the Internet.

But lately, I keep reading a lot of criticism about Angie's List, like how difficult it can be for a consumer to cancel their subscription.

It seems that contractors generally don't like Angie's List, and feel that the service is nothing more than a "shakedown".

Photos of a nice little house in suburban Detroit.

While it's beyond the reach of most people, you can still get a lot of design ideas from this house.

Article about housing, demographics and changing consumer tastes.

" ...of the 20.1 million senior households that will attempt to sell their homes between 2015 and 2030, the University of Utah researcher Arthur C. Nelson estimates that 7.4 million won’t be able to find people to buy them..."

That could be a huge problem for the housing market.

I never noticed until today, but Yahoo! now has a Homes section, with news and info about houses and housing.

http://homes.yahoo.com/

Years ago, Yahoo! was my browser homepage, but over the years their user experience kinda went downhill so I stopped going there. Since Marissa Mayer took over as CEO (she was Google's employee number 5, or something...), Yahoo has gotten noticeably better.

Interesting map showing what was the dominant period for homebuilding in each county in the United States.

I've always been told that pre-finished hardwood flooring needs a special chemical to remove the coating, when it comes time to refinish the wood floor.

Yet what I'm finding is that people just use an ordinary floor sander to sand off the factory-applied coating. It might take more sandpaper than old-fashioned varnish or urethane, but supposedly it works. And the coating on many pre-finished flooring products is often aluminum oxide, which is also the abrasive in a lot of sandpapers.
