It's National Smokeout Day!
At first, I was thinking, "It's kind of too cold in many areas of N. America for BBQing. Not that we don't grill in snow, but...today's a strange day to designate for that activity" only that's not what National Smokeout Day is!
Today is the day to stop smoking! For realz, people:http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/calendar/nov/gaso/
I know a lot of smokers want to quit and they can't. That's what this day is for, it's a step, maybe the first, maybe the thousandth, but it's a step. There is a list of resources in the link I've shared. There are probably things going on in your town to help smokers quit smoking today. Here is the springboard toward happier lungs and a fuller wallet.
I care about this because my sister is a smoker. We've spent the last 1 3/4 years helping our mother who has lung cancer (it's killing her) and we've been able to see, first-hand, what smoking does to a body (Mom swears her lung cancer is not from cigarettes. Even now, she is 100% certain that her choice to smoke for 40-some years has nothing to do with her current state of being). It's been a terrible journey for us all. Even so, my sister still smokes.
I don't want to see this happen to her, too.
If you're a smoker and you really want to quit, please make use of today. This could be the step that takes, the first onto a path toward better health and longer life (probably. Unless you're hit by a bus. Maybe don't jaywalk and always be aware of your surroundings and avoid speeding buses)
Good luck! You got this!
