Happy 12th Birthday Derrick!

Volunteers sometimes find it hard to believe that Derrick was a bit of a handful when he first arrived. He was used to life as a street boy and wasn't quite convinced that living with us and all our rules was the life for him. He used to sneak back to join his street friends on Sunday while everyone was at church, thinking that nobody would notice his absence from Sunday School. To see this great kid now you wouldn't believe he is the same boy.

Many of you know that our main focus is abandoned infants here in Kenya. We believe that we are all created in the image of God and that our babies, many of which are the innocent victims of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, are precious to our Lord and we boldly seek to love, protect and care for them. We need your help! Consider sponsoring a child: http://bit.ly/1ckq27C

We are looking for a Sponsor for Derrick: http://www.springsofhopefoundation.org/sponsor/
Derricks mother is deceased and his father is in prison. Before he came to live with us he was living with his very elderly Great Great Aunt and Uncle. They also had another great granchild around Derrick’s age in their care. Living in extreme poverty they were unable to feed and care for Derrick. Derrick has a twin brother living as a run away on the streets that we hope to be able to track down and be given the opportunity to help.

James and Hannah have been with us since February 2013. They were both basically illiterate when they arrived. I had to enroll them both in kindergarten. Hannah is very bright and always gets all A's (which costs me 20 cents each) and James has been placing in the top 5 of his class. I credit a lot of this to our volunteers who tutor them after school. Sponsor James and Hannah: http://bit.ly/1ckq27C

Five year old Grace is the youngest of the three girls in her family. Originally we were not asked to care for Grace because the family thought she was HIV positive. It didn’t make sense to us to take care of her healthy girls and leave Grace at home with her desperately ill parents. As with all children that come to live with us the first thing we did was take them to the clinic for a check up and HIV test. Much to everyone's delight young Grace tested negative! Eight year old Teresia is one of Margaret’s six siblings. We were originally asked to assist the family by taking care of Teresia only. When we visited the family in their desperately poor conditions (with 6 children and the 85 year old grandmother sleeping on an earth floor at night and mom and dad were sick-- we took her siblings as well! Sponsor Teresia: http://bit.ly/1ckq27C

Sponsor Margaret! http://bit.ly/1ckq27C
Margaret’s parents both have AIDS and were no longer able to care for their 11 year old daughter, Margaret when she came to us. When we visited the family we found her living in a two room mud house. Each room was 10 x 10 with 9 family members, spread over 4 generations ranging from 6 months old to 85 living in the house. The children and the 85 year old grandmother all slept on the living room’s earth floor at night. Father and mother were often too sick to look for casual farm work (which pays $2.00 per day) to support their family. Margaret is enjoying living at the Home of Hope sponsored by Kijiji Mission and is eager to attend school again this year! Help make that dream a reality! #molokenya #kenya #springsofhope #orphanage

It has taken God's love that we have seen a new year 2014, all of us as your family we are doing well! Our family is already growing in number; on Christmas Eve we received a baby girl who is 2 years old named Puric. The baby girl was left with her grandmother who reported that her son and his wife had deference which led to separation. The girl’s mother left the baby under the care of her husband and left. Sadly the father of the baby ran away leaving her with the grandmother. The child’s grandmother had taken the baby to District Children’s Officer’s Office asking the Government to take care of the baby after a brief talk she was told to wait outside the office, but the old mother left without anybody noticing her leaving the baby at the door of D.C.O office. We need a sponsor for Puric, as she is not in good health! Please sponsor her: http://bit.ly/1ckq27C

We will have a picture soon!
