I'm probably the only reviewer reviewing this place for takeout, but I was teaching an evening class at Suffolk and was looking for a bite to eat and this whole area can be pretty desolate in the evening. I was happy to hear that they did take out and I ordered their famous Gnocchi which comes with perfectly tender short ribs, gorgonzola in a mushroom sauce. It was exquisite, even in a to-go box. I'll be sure to be hitting this place up again the next time I'm teaching late at Suffolk.

We were very disappointed with our food selections. The seafood was overcooked. The salad had too much dressing on it. The deserts were overly sweet. The wait staff were gracious and attentive.

I don't get the allure of Grotto. I've heard so many people rave about it and then I was overwhelmingly disappointed when we went during Fall Restaurant Week 2012. We waited in line while people smoked on the stairwell downstairs, despite having a reservation. I guess the big problem was that there was no true host station...meaning no one knew we were even waiting despite trying to make ourselves known. The food was presented quite nicely, but it was almost too much, and the flavors didn't match the presentation. The time to be served was okay for having a packed house, but the service was horrendous, sitting with empty glasses for what seemed like eternity. I don't think I'd ever go back willingly, but may be willing to give it another chance with a group sometime.

COMPLETELY blown away by Grotto! Small - romantic - detail oriented - truly exceptional. I had been largely unimpressed with mid-range Boston restaurants until Grotto...very very impressive.

Only table here for dinner on Superbowl Sunday. Great service. Delicious starting bread with olive oil. Beef tenderloin and portobello mushroom fonduta is absolutely delicious. Wish it came with more mushrooms. I strongly recommend the Antra (Apple stuffed duck breast, crispy leg, prosciutto, dried cherries, potato gratin, black truffle aioli, madeira) Loved the balance between the salty prosciutto, sweet cherries and fatty duck breast.

Hidden gem in Beacon Hill. Amazing selection of Italian-inspired food, with options ranging from traditional chicken parmesean to duck, seafood, and more. The quality is top notch and portions generous. I suggest going "all-in" for the three-course pre-fix price of $35(ish). You won't regret it! Make reservations.

A romantic, subterranean jewel, the food stands out as the best part of the dining experience at Grotto. We were extremely pleased with our cheese fondue appetizer (be sure to save the bread they serve you to dip in the sauce when it comes!). The short ribs with gnocchi was filled with flavor and excellent comfort food, although very rich. The chicken saltimbocca was also delicious, as were the accompanying mushrooms and large potato gnocchi on the side, which tasted like a potato cake.
