I recently stayed with a group of friends in the five cabins referred to as "Huntsman Hollow." The cabins were very nice, and it was more like a B&B than I thought it would be. I expected more ruggedness, and was pleasantly surprised by some of the micro-conveniences that were there; AC in the cabins, a coffee pot, soap and towels. The actual castle was great as well. We could hike 1/4 mile up a hill to it, or just drive.we had complimentary breakfast in the castle, as well as went to the pub and played some board games there. It is in the woods, in the middle of the wilderness. You won't get cell reception, embrace that now, and download your map offline. Enjoy!

If it was possible to give this place bonus stars, we would. Ravenwood Castle is not just a place to stay but it is an experience. The rooms are all beautiful including the cottages and the cabins. We usually stay in the cabins due to having other guests with us but they are so nice we never regret it. Not to mention their fire pit with swings around it at the cabins is quite lovely. Whether we want to go there for a weekend escape and play a game from their fantastic game library or if go for a murder mystery weekend, it's simply fantastic. The murder mystery weekends they host there are quite something. There really isn't anything to compare them to. They are definitely an event/experience. They start from the moment you walk in on Friday and don't end until breakfast Sunday. This is becoming our new family tradition. The people that run the event are absolutely brilliant and outdo themselves every time - I really do mean that. The castle is just so nice. The food is always good and the service of the people working there can't be beat. If it was up to my wife and the budget we would be there every weekend.

This was one of the most relaxing vacation my wife and I have ever taken! A very unique, surreal and tranquil atmosphere! Preston is the inn keeper and he gave us service at the caliber of Walt Disney World!

Thanks for leaving a review Andrew! We're glad you and your wife enjoyed your visit with us! If it's not too much trouble, could I ask you to leave us a short review on Tripadvisor as well? It's the best way to share what we're all about with the travelling public! Thanks! http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g50741-d80850-Reviews-Ravenwood_Castle-New_Plymouth_Ohio.html

My coworker was told she was going to have WiFi while there, but apparently that is LIMITED to certain areas of the hotel (castle and front cottages). And they do not feel it appropriate to compensate for the lack of misrepresentation. If you need WIFI and want a location further from the main building, you're going to have to choose your greatest desire.
Response from the owner - in the last week
Flora, I'm unsure why you are leaving us a review if you have not yourself been a guest. That seems a sure recipe for inaccurate information - which in fact seems to have happened here. I do not know who may have informed your coworker that we would have WiFi, we do not. WiFi is not limited to certain areas of the castle, it is actually not available at all. This is not something we hide, and have in fact written several blogs about it and designed marketing campaigns around "Vacation, Unplugged." Many of our guests enjoy being disconnected from the electronic leashes of every day life, and our remote location makes that possible. That being said, we would like to have the ability to offer WiFi for those guests who prefer the ability to connect. We have been attempting to obtain reliable internet service for several years - something that our remote location has made extremely difficult. We have a new service in testing now, which may allow us to offer limited WiFi in the future.

My friends and I go to the tavern at Ravenswood at at least once a month. The staff is incredibly nice and the drink prices aren't bad. The food is also good, but the pub food is somewhat limited. I have heard that the food for customers staying the night is great though, just haven't experienced it myself. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

After reading the reviews I must give mine. I stayed at the end of September 2 years ago in a gypsy wagon as that was all they had but was great! I am coming back Labor day Murder Mystery weekend and all they have left is a gypsy wagon again which is good since they are getting rid of them and building more cottages. I wish they could find room for them somewhere... We loved the castle and the service and friendliness of staff. I remember they made something with pumpkin flavor and I told the lady they were so good and she gave me the recipe!! Cannot wait for murder mystery weekend!! I have been on several vacations and this one was my favorite!

We stayed for our anniversary and it was a wonderful time. The board game library is fairly extensive and a good representation of all genres. The grounds are beautiful, secluded, and quiet. Rooms were clean and cozy. Breakfast was tasty and the dinner was delicious and well worth the extra money. The massage add on was an added bonus and was a great cap off to outlr trip. We also recommend the train ride in Nelsonville!

My 11-year-old daughter was the one who found this hotel by Googling "unusual hotels in Ohio." She was super excited when we booked our stay once I found it was only 30 minutes from Hocking Hills...as we planned to visit that area. We decided on staying in a cabin in the Huntsman's Hollow since it appeared to have more room for our family. Upon arriving, we were told the AC was being fixed so they were gracious enough to upgrade us to the Clock Tower which is a cottage in the Medieval Village. We had the unusual pleasure of staying a few nights there and a night in the Huntsman Hollow. I could not have asked for a more fun time and experience of staying at two areas of the castle grounds. The innkeepers were so kind and even knowing the AC would have been fine by that evening, they were not going to risk any discomfort for us. That was so sweet and we were very appreciative. I could tell they felt terrible about the AC not working but really...that happens. What counts is how an establishment handles a bump in the road as bumps are inevitable. The village is adorable and our cottage was clean. My girls could not have been happier with the whirlpool tub. When we arrived at the cabin a few nights later we were just as thrilled. The kids LOVED the loft. We enjoyed our hike from the hollow to the cabin...but you can just as easily drive if you don't want to take the hike. The cabin had plenty of room and the AC was amazing by the time we got there. We sincerely could have stayed at the cabin or the cottage our entire stay and been happy but we did go with the intention of hiking at Old Man's Cave. The innkeepers are super nice and so were all the staff. They make you feel like you arrived home. They were insistent that you felt comfortable enough to come and go on the grounds and in the castle any time you wanted. They provide plenty of games and a library filled with great books that you can take back to your room or play in the pub...or anywhere on the grounds. The DVD collection isn't huge and there is no internet or cell reception so if you want to watch a movie, I suggest bringing your own DVD. We were happy playing games, roaming around the castle, and eating at the pub. The pub doesn't have a huge offering and the food isn't amazing...but it is fine and the service is great. I did steal a bit of my daughter's mac and cheese and it was pretty good...lol. We will certainly be staying there again.
