diy.org is one of the more intriguing startups at the junction of education and the maker movement. They are a kind of rethinking of boy scouts for the digital era, with maker-style skills rather than old school scouting skills as the measure of accomplishment.
Right now, this is aimed at younger kids and their parents, not the education system per-se, but you can see how easily this could become disruptive for schools as well, because the skills they teach are really the 21st century skills that schools haven't yet figured out that they need to teach.
