She stares at the mirror
Over come by her blemishes
Almost paralyzed
Pride leads her to mascara
Vanity leads her
To staple her crown with
golden locks
locked in a sequence of
necessities
she is lost
living in a darkened room of insecurity
please tell her she's beautiful
hopefully she'll be listening
her birth is undeniable
no need for Facebook reminders or pseudo salutations
but perhaps she just needs to be told
perhaps her heart is broken and in need of mending...
the tale tale signs of servitude write poems across her face
yet no one sees her struggle
she hides behind
subtlety...
a patchwork of
colors create her
image
beauty discovered
by Clairol
beneath the surface of it all the pain lingers like a ghost hovering over a corpse
please tell her that she's beautiful..
perhaps she hides
because she knows
that for a woman
in this country
beauty trumps intelligence
perhaps her scars are
man made
she hides her fears like trinkets in the most expensive Dunne and Burke,
there is no hurt there
her shame fills the pockets with material,
while her soul is hollow
she is a shallow pool of
uncertainty....
I feel for her
so she stares at the mirror
regretful of the years she
lost the youth that was
tossed aside for material
affection
married for the wrong reasons her nails filled with fools gold
digging her own hole
she grieves now
almost paralyzed
she can't pedal
her beautiful
any longer
like a ball player with no team
her million dollar smile won't buy her a five dollar drink.

HONOR

She prided herself on her Sense of honor. Mummie raised her to be an elegant southern Bell. She wore golden pigtails and her speech had the air of the refined She would be married at age 17 to a man who aged her in years equal to 9, a politician who preached from a hooded pulpit the culprit who concealed affiliation and identity holding enmity to his former SLAVE but oh he was brave in the cold night air with no compassion to spare beneath his sheets and she so incomplete not knowing the relationship of good and evil she traditionally like the idea of having a boy to toy with overjoyed with the power and control she possessed The rest is history Or Herstory A moral contradiction Conditions of a national dilemma Unable to reconcile A feeling of servitude She subdued the humanity Of any who resembled The boy released from bondage Held hostage by fragile beliefs She prided herself on her sense Of honor Made visible by a battered countenance As shame took On the face of dignity And ignorance Reigned terror as a thief A prisoner of sentiment Not intuned with her own beliefs Or convictions She Raised her children to Be victims Of the ignorant decadence Of priveledge No remorse for future Generations Confined by compromise and Bigotry Guilt becomes the voice which Echoes beyond the shadows of time We see no evil And hear only the shallow voice Of doom When we assume Responsibility For a tradition Where justice barters With oppression Civility is ignored Chivalry is misguided And a lie begins to Compromise destiny You see Some of them Don't see the falacies Of supremacy Confusing hate with honor Masquerading In veiled ideology The system perpetuates The lie in most cases Indeed This explains why They don't consider themselves Racists.   UrbanVoodoo Copyrights Reserved © 2010
