Benefits of Regular Oil Changes
All automobile owners know they are supposed to change their oil regularly. But when life gets busy or you want to save some money, is it really worth it? The answer is undoubtedly yes! Here are the top benefits of regular oil changes, and why you should stick to your schedule.

Better Engine Performance
There is no question that clean oil helps give you better engine performance. Many drivers can tell right away that their car responds better after changing the oil. You might not have even realized its weakened performance before, so sticking to your manufacturer’s recommended schedule is important. If you go too long without an oil change, or drive with low oil, you can risk seriously damaging your engine.

Better Fuel Economy
Not only does driving with clean oil feel better, it helps your car’s efficiency. If you’ve noticed that you have been getting worse mileage than usual, check your oil. Driving with dirty oil or not enough makes your engine work harder, decreasing your miles per gallon.

Longer Engine Lifespan
Depending on your specific vehicle and the type of oil you use, you are looking at an oil change cost of $20 to $70, on average. If you change your oil once a year, this is still a small price to pay compared to rebuilding a damaged engine. Because fresh oil keeps your engine cleaner and under less strain, it is an important part of extending the life of your engine. With regular oil changes, you can prevent serious and catastrophic engine damage down the road.

How to Build an Emergency Kit for Your Car

Though most of the time you’ll never need it, you’ll be thankful when you do! An emergency car kit is an essential item for every driver. While you can purchase a premade kit, it’s often much more affordable and functional to make your own. Here’s how to build an emergency kit for your car.

The Essentials
emergency kit for your carNo matter what kind of car you’re driving or where, there are a few things that belong in every car. Some of these items may already be included in your vehicles, such as a spare tire, but double check before you hit the road!

Car Manual
First Aid Kit
Flashlight
Jug or Bottles of Water
Jumper Cables
Roadside Assistance Information/Card
Spare Tire
Tire Changing Tools (Tire Jack, Tire Iron, and WD-40)
Work Gloves

Customized for You
Do you have a pet? A small child? Do you drive into the desert frequently? Are you traveling to an area where there will be snow? Keep these things in mind when building your emergency kit for your car. You may need to keep an extra leash in the glove box for Fido, or purchase an ice scraper before heading to the mountains.

Unusual But Important
Many will argue that these items are essentials as well, but it may depend on where you drive. For example, paper maps are important to have on hand when driving somewhere you’re unfamiliar with, but are unnecessary for your daily commute. You might also benefit from keeping a change of clothes in the car, whether it’s a whole outfit or just some clean socks.

While the emergency kit for your car can help you out in many situations, some problems call for a professional mechanic. When you need auto repair in Vista, CA, call GM Exclusive at (760) 941-5002.

GM Ignition Switch Recall
Author: admin April 14, 2014
Last week, the NHTSA was notified by General Motors that certain vehicles will be recalled due to a defective ignition switch. This defect can potentially interfere with the airbag’s systems ability to safely operate. Owners should seek repairs as soon as they receive final notification from GM.
In the meantime, General Motors strongly urges not to use the ignition key with anything else on the key ring. Reason being is that added weight can potentially slip the key from the “run” position and interfere with the sensing algorithm in the event of a crash which may result in the airbags not deploying.
There have been complaints of keys coming out of ignitions, which could possibly result in a rollaway. To correct this issue, GM will be adding ignition lock cylinders to the recalls. If you have a manual transmission, GM suggests setting the parking brake while in reverse gear before and making sure the ignition is in the “off” position before removing the key. For automatic transmission, owners should ensure the vehicle is in “park” prior to remove the key from the ignition.
GM plans to replace the ignition locks and reprogram new keys if necessary. The recall is effective for the following models:
• 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice
• 2007-2010 Pontiac G5
• 2003-2007 Saturn Ion
• 2007-2010 Saturn Sky
• 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
• 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR
