I went to Pub 199 with a group of people and was fairly amazed at what I found. I'll state upfront that I did have a terrific cheeseburger, but that was the only plus. Below are the things that I personally found unacceptable for a restaurant. 1. Credit cards not accepted. Yes, they have an atm at the bar area, but this seems like a ploy to get transaction fees from customers. 2. One drink minimum. I've only ever seen this at a comedy club, and for a place like this to do it makes no sense. 3. Huge bathroom, no changing table. Perhaps this is supposed to be an "adult" place, but it looks like a cafeteria so I doubt it. Not having a pull-down changing table in the huge stall at the end is silly. 4. Service was awful. It ought to be one drink maximum because it was near impossible to get a second. 5. Dirty beer lines. I should have known from the look of the place that this would be the case, but I ordered a Flying Fish IPA and a Miller Lite anyway. Both tasted off, funky, which is a telltale sign of dirty beer lines. Makes me wonder how clean everything else is. 6. Plastic cups (speaking of beer). The only other place I've seen beer served in plastic cups in a restaurant is...nowhere. I've seen it at college parties and dive college bars, but even most of the latter use glassware. I can't say the decor is "unacceptable" because you can do whatever you want with your restaurant as far as that's concerned, but I found it offensive. The dead animals littering the walls and all the photos of the hunter with his dead "game" made me want to cry, not eat, but I guess that makes people like me drink more then. Seeing a giraffe mounted...what's wrong with you? But that "look" didn't even jive with the rest of the atmosphere. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone based on my experience, but I'm from central NJ, not western NJ, so maybe I just don't get it.

I've been to this place several times because my Mom loves their cheap price on steamed clams. I've gone to make her happy but not anymore. She knows how much I hate this place so she doesn't ask me anymore. 1. Atmosphere: I don't mind the animals. In fact, they're kind of interesting. What I don't like is the rest of the atmosphere. It's very cafeteria like, the tables and lighting and noise...I feel like I'm in grade school at lunch, except for all the grown ups and animal heads. 2. The only thing in the whole menu that tastes OK is the shell fish, which is priced well. The problem? It is NEVER HOT. I've gone for the clams, lobster and crab legs. I've never had any served to me hot. The clams are usually warm, but everything else is served room temperature cold. And the drawn "butter" is NOT REAL BUTTER!! It's nasty and basically salt flavored grease. 3. Service: AWFUL. Especially if it's busy. Wait staff is always unhappy and rushed. They practically throw your food at you, sometimes spilling the "drawn butter" they charge extra for if you ask for more. Takes forever to get a problem corrected, if it ever even is, and forget about paying and leaving promptly. Getting your check takes forever. 4. Presentation. They use disposable plastic everything. It's so strange. All their drinks and sides, etc. are served in plastic cups and dishes...even wine!!! Wine is served in a regular plastic disposable beer cup. Strangest thing ever. 5. They don't take credit cards. Annoying, but also suspicious. 6. Drinks: WAY overpriced in comparison with the food menu. Prices of drinks are so not justified in this cafeteria like atmosphere, not to mention the presentation. I mean, seriously charging $9 for cabernet served in a plastic beer cup???? Ridiculous. ALSO, they have a rule that everyone MUST order a drink, and they charge for water!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Utterly insane. There are people that LOVE this place. I don't get why. If you like to enjoy the experience of dining out as well as trying interesting and tasty foods, this is not the place for you. It's awful. I will NEVER go here again.

Get there early. Love the taxidermy. Chicken in a basket is the best bargain for your money. Four small pieces of golden fried chicken, onion rings and fries. Delicious. The steamed clams with melted butter were fresh and very good. The lobster was delicious. No tap water. $2.50 for a bottle of water, ridiculous. I do have the say that the waitresses are quite stupid and unfriendly. All in all, I can't wait to return for the clams and steak.

NOT HAPPY at all. No complimentary water, no credit cards, bar service took too long when I first sat down for lunch and the bar was not busy. The menu is limited and the drinks a little pricey, $9.50 +tax for LIT. Got burger and fries, the burger was not too bad but the fries were cold and tasteless. As somebody else said very weird place. Huge with animal mountings all over the place. tries to call itself a sports bar but nowhere near and for a place this huge you think you would have better variety and take credit cards. I don't know about anybody else but a place turns me off and I usually won't go back if they can't even give me water. I pay $9.50 for a drink and a can't get a glass of water with it?? This isn't some luncheonette or stand off the road so why wouldn't they take credit cards.
