I think the issue is not being looked at properly. I think religions need to be taught in school. When I was in High School we had a section in our social studies class on religions. We learn basics about Buddhism and Islam. We learned the eight nobles truths in Buddhism and the five pillars of Islam.  Religion can be taught in schools as an academic subject from the social perspective.   Everyone goes right to "teaching the religion", but overlooks the "teaching about the religion". Kids need to be exposed to diversity and understand the world is larger what they are used to.  My two cents.

+Angelo Nasios i totally agree, and i was going to say something similar. if different aspects of our reality are taught; history, science, mathmatics, social studies, so should religions, they are after all part of reality and to just ignore them completely would not be right i feel. i feel it would be part of a well rounded, ready for the real world, sort of education, because the fact is is that there are many people practicing many religions out there. i also feel it would increase tolerance and understanding.

Excellent post. I totally am the same way. I toss away so much that I find unless/irrelevant and focus on the a smaller core of important aspects.

I think we all do this eventually.  What is "important" will differ from reader to reader.
