• The 8th Conference of the Hellenic Crystallographic Association (HeCrA) and the 11th Conference of the Hellenic Society for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (HSCBB) (HeCrA-HSCBB16) are jointly organized.
• HeCrA-HSCBB16 will take place at the Agricultural University of Athens in October 7-9, 2016
• The Conference is the major event both of HeCrA & HSCBB. It is a forum to communicate state-of-the-art research, interact and establish scientific networks and collaborations.

Dear HSCBB Members,

We are pleased to announce that the proceedings of the HSCBB15 conference can be published as full-length papers in the newly affiliated PeerJ journal as a special PeerJ Collection for HSCBB15. Selected invitations will be sent to authors after the completion of the conference.

PeerJ is a respected open access publisher in the biological, medical and computer sciences. All published papers will become available online as open access. PeerJ is indexed by PubMed and Web of Science and has received a provisional 2,5-year impact factor of 2.1 and is expected to increase. 
  
PeerJ has a unique business model for Open Access publication. Each author pays a single, low fee of $99 for the first time that he/she publishes in PeerJ journal. The same author is exempt from charges for a 5-year period even if he/she publishes with another combination of co-authors. Of course, co-authors who have not published in PeerJ journal before, will be asked to pay the one-time $99 fee.
 
PeerJ journal reviews submissions for scientific and methodological soundness and all articles submitted to PeerJ will go through a normal reviewing process. Abstract acceptance by the HSCBB15 conference does not guarantee that your manuscript will be accepted for full length publication.

Following discussions with PeerJ journal, we expect to maintain a long term collaboration in order to take full advantage of its 5-year publishing plan.

Αγαπητοί συνάδελφοι και φίλοι,

Στο πλαίσιο του έργου IntDaMuS (Integration of Data from Multiple Sources), το οποίο υλοποιείται από το εργαστήριο μας μέσω του ερευνητικού προγράμματος ΑΡΙΣΤΕΙΑ ΙΙ, διοργανώνονται δύο workshops και ημερίδα, τα οποία θα πραγματοποιηθούν αντίστοιχα στις 25 και 26 Ιουνίου στο Τμήμα Πληροφορικής με Εφαρμογές στην Βιοϊατρική του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας στην πόλη της Λαμίας.
Τα workshops έχουν θέμα την εισαγωγή στη μετα-ανάλυση και τις προηγμένες μεθόδους μετα-ανάλυσης. Στην ημερίδα θα παρουσιαστούν τα αποτελέσματα του προγράμματος ενώ έχουν προσκληθεί να δώσουν ομιλίες ειδικοί επιστήμονες του χώρου.

Στο ερευνητικό έργο IntDaMuS εφαρμόζεται ένα ολοκληρωμένο πλαίσιο που γεφυρώνει δεδομένα και μεθόδους γενετικής επιδημιολογίας, με μεθόδους υπολογιστικής βιολογίας και βιοπληροφορικής. Η διεπιστημονική προσέγγιση που υλοποιείται για την ενσωμάτωση της βιοπληροφορικής με τη γενετική επιδημιολογία καλύπτει έναν ευρύ τομέα της έρευνας, που περιλαμβάνει στατιστικές και μαθηματικές μεθόδους, ανάπτυξη λογισμικού, βιοπληροφορική, καθώς και μοριακή βιολογία. Βασικός στόχος είναι η κατανόηση της μοριακής βάσης πολύπλοκων (πολυπαραγοντικών) ασθενειών όπως ο διαβήτης, η υπέρταση, η στεφανιαία νόσος κ.α. Τέτοιες ασθένειες είναι πολύ σημαντικές, δεδομένου ότι επηρεάζουν ένα μεγάλο τμήμα του ενήλικου πληθυσμού, και την ίδια στιγμή δείχνουν υψηλό βαθμό αλληλοσυσχέτισης (συν-εμφάνισης και αιτιωδών σχέσεων), που πρέπει να αντιμετωπιστούν με τη σύγχρονη στατιστική και τις νέες υπολογιστικές μεθόδους.
