We will have a chance to review his approach to film over many years from when he began working with Luc Besson and Lars Von Trier to becoming a director in his own right. We are simply beyond excited to be hosting your world premiere Ebony!!!

A little bit about the documentary film I have spent the past few years or so making - and just finished last week!!

I'm also excited to announce our World Premiere in March at +DC Independent Film Festival and then also screening the same month at the #Los Angeles #Women's International Film Fest!

"A Brilliant Genocide" is an expose of the brutal campaigns by the Yoweri Museveni regime to wipe out a significant part of Uganda's Acholi people under the guise of crushing a rebellion by The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). It lays bare the atrocities committed by Museveni's army against the Acholi people of Northern Uganda since 1986 when he seized power.

The documentary is a counterpoint to #Kony2012 which brought worldwide awareness to the crimes committed by the LRA under rebel leader Joseph Kony when the video became the most watched viral video of all time, with over 100 million views. "A Brilliant Genocide" contests popular narratives that pin Kony as the world worst criminal and the one responsible for the 20 year long war.

Rather than following the simple and well established government narrative, "A Brilliant Genocide" shows how the Museveni regime has used Kony as a straw man, enabling the Ugandan government to garner international sympathy and resources in the supposed "war on terrorism" while in fact diverting attention from its own crimes against humanity in northern Uganda. The 77 minute feature documentary includes interviews with Museveni's former close associates who during the war conducted some of the most bloodiest campaigns against the people in Northern Uganda. Many other prominent Ugandan thinkers, opposition figures, activists, exiles and émigrés are also featured to offer a uniquely Ugandan perspective.

With the festival coming up, we're on the look out for some fantastic volunteers.

Interested in volunteering with us for DCIFF 2016? We’d love to hear from you! Please email us at and explain who you are, what you could do as a volunteer and why you want to do this!
Long term festival volunteers are part of our team and are rewarded with full access to all festival events and a real job description on our team list. As a full festival volunteer you attend all staff meetings and work on a specific area from now to and through the festival. We look for enthusiasm, staying power and willingness to work alone as well as with the team.

Festival Program volunteers work hours in exchange for equivalent hours attending events/watching films. All volunteers must attend 1 festival meetings/orientations in January or February 2016. Many of our volunteers go on to become staff members the next year as DCIFF is entirely run by dedicated volunteers.
