All are welcome! The day features outside games, crafts, an eco-obstacle course, hay rides, alpaca shuttle tours, prizes and even Booth Bingo where folks receive a stuffed animal or game for visiting a certain number of the booths during the day. Best of all, activities and food are free, including hot dogs and buns, cookies and donated Pepsi products (while supplies last). The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Families come from Terre Haute and West Terre Haute, Paris, Brazil, Bloomington, Marshall and other surrounding areas. It’s an energizing day for sister and staff volunteers who love seeing the Woods filled with laughing children and parents, and even an occasional family pet.

"I've always admired [Saint Mother Theodore's] tenacity and her bravery—her willingness to work for others the way she did," says Tracy Schier, who received the Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Award last Saturday from the +Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College National Alumnae Association Board of Directors. Congrats, Tracy!

“We just wanted to focus on helping people to find a sense of belonging, to help them know God’s love that is here for all of us,” says Sister Susanne Gallagher of her work with SPRED - Special Religious Development for people with developmental or learning disabilities. (Here Sister Susanne (at right) helps her sister Rita climb the 40 steps to get to Rita’s SPRED faith community meeting.)  Read the story at http://bit.ly/10PZpPm.

Says Sister Evelyn: "I certainly carry 'home' with me wherever I go. A turtle carries its home on its back; I carry mine in my heart. But home is not simply a place. It is a state of being. To be home is to be yourself; to peel away the masks because you know you are safe and accepted and loved. It is an attitude of mind and heart of deep, deep gratefulness. To be home is also the ability to see the holy in everything around me that makes my heart sing."

"Professing my first vows was one of the happiest days in my life. Because I had fought it for so long, it was great that I was making a public commitment with the Sisters of Providence and to God. And it was great because my whole family and so many of my friends were with me that day." Do you know about our foundress, Saint Mother Theodore Guerin? We think she's pretty neat.  Born Oct. 2, 1798, in the village of Etables-sur-Mer in Brittany, France, Saint Mother Theodore Guerin led an extraordinary life before her death May 14, 1856, at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana. After a process spanning nearly a century, Mother Theodore was canonized a #saint in the #Catholic Church on Oct. 15, 2006, and designated in the Vatican’s official record as Saint Theodora. For the past 55 years the Fillenwarth sisters (Sister Joseph and Sister Patty) have lived not only as blood sisters, but as religious sisters as well. Says Sister Joseph: "“I think we’re here to be of service, and Jesus didn’t go to the wealthy. He went to the people who needed help. Not that you overlook the rich, but there’s such a great need."
