Your Visual Library: Why You Need it, How To Get It, and How To Make It Work for You

Today at 4pm Eastern: http://kelbytv.com/thegrid

Photography is a very exciting art form, once you get past the mechanics. When you do, you are off exploring all sorts of creativity. That said, there are times where we get stuck running in circles and not breaking past that.

+RC Concepcion +Pete Collins and I will be talking about how everyone can benefit from looking at building their visual library. One part art history, one part inspiration - we'll show you how to take the inspiration around you and use it to get your shots to that next level. Tune in Today at 4PM Eastern at http://kelbytv.com/thegrid

Promo Shoot with SPZRKT

Last week a friend of mine who is starting a record label told me he'd just signed his first two artists and wondered if I would have time soon to do some publicity photos for him. One of them is in Tampa (where we live), and the other lives in San Antonio.

As luck would have it, I happened to be going to San Antonio for a seminar with +Scott Kelby just a few days later (which is where we are now)! Let's just say my friend was very happy to hear this ;-)

After dinner last night, SPZRKT (pronounced Spazzy Rocket) met me at our hotel for the shoot. Took a little while to get warmed up, but once I did, I got some shots I was pretty happy with (and even more importantly, HE was happy with).

The profile shot was done with one speedlight and an Impact 24" Quickbox positioned slightly behind him, and the other was available light on a bench between the elevators outside my room.

If you want to check out his music, here's a link where you can get his album The Loner - http://spzrkt.bandcamp.com/

Fascinating article on the economics of ticket scalping...

It never occurred to me that "fan-considerate" artists who charge reasonable ticket prices to their concerts may be 1) deliberately optimizing their ultimate revenue (by allowing fans to use redirect cash to high margin merchandise), and 2) inadvertently creating a somewhat sketchy aftermarket (the story leads with a tale of a fan who lost $375 on counterfeit tickets.)  Ouch.
