I am amazed at the power of our charism. Our gift for the world is to find ways to connect with the disconnected. It is a desire to bring plentiful redemption alive in what we do to awaken a hunger for what our Redeemer wants to give as food. Life Directions: Raising Hope, Building Peace outlines our 40-year history of peers inspiring peers through forgiving. We have worked in six different cities since beginning in Detroit. We are active in Detroit and Chicago, but had to discontinue activities in San Antonio TX, New Orleans LA, Tuscon AZ and Salem OR due to cutbacks. In each city we worked to strengthen values in public schools and spirituality among young adults.
The formula works. We find young adults who are rooted in a positive and spirit-filled relationship with “elders.” These young adults are the people to inspire their “rootless” peers to grow by being connected to the positive energy and enthusiasm of those who are “rooted.” Just in the last week Life Directions built a hoop house for an urban garden at Western International High School in Detroit and began planting the Learning Garden at Marshall Metropolitan High School in Chicago. Both projects represent new ways of community engagement and building peace across generations and cultures.
Life Directions: Raising Hope, Building Peace is now available on Amazon or from our office. All proceeds support our focus: LIFE Spiritual Formation Process for 18 to 35 year old young adults.. As I read The Joy of the Gospel by Pope Francis over the winter, I felt I was reading a kindred spirit. Go into the community, engage people, discover their sparks and journey together in loving what is best in them. Reverence God’s life in everyone and the joy of the gospel is ever-present. God created this joy to be in us and to be shared with each other. I thank everyone we have touched for being such a significant part of Life Directions’ journey.
We have copies of the book. If you would like one, contact Bonnie Remenapp at 313.420.0310 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
