We are grateful for what God has done with Life Directions. What started out as a dream to reach young adults who were not in Church blossomed into a mission of God’s plentiful redemption to public high schools and neighborhoods stigmatized by violence. I received many warnings. “Are you sure you want to go there?” But the astounding thing is that we have never had a violent incident happen to our staff or our volunteers in the neighborhoods we work. The very same neighborhoods that are routinely, and negatively highlighted in the evening news. Instead of violence we witness miracles as young people wake up and turn their lives around. We encourage each person’s spark that bring life to communities.

I am amazed at the power of our charism. Our gift for the world is to find ways to connect with the disconnected. It is a desire to bring plentiful redemption alive in what we do to awaken a hunger for what our Redeemer wants to give as food.  Life Directions: Raising Hope, Building Peace outlines our 40-year history of peers inspiring peers through forgiving. We have worked in six different cities since beginning in Detroit. We are active in Detroit and Chicago, but had to discontinue activities in San Antonio TX, New Orleans LA, Tuscon AZ and Salem OR due to cutbacks. In each city we worked to strengthen values in public schools and spirituality among young adults.

The formula works. We find young adults who are rooted in a positive and spirit-filled relationship with “elders.” These young adults are the people to inspire their “rootless” peers to grow by being connected to the positive energy and enthusiasm of those who are “rooted.” Just in the last week Life Directions built a hoop house for an urban garden at Western International High School in Detroit and began planting the Learning Garden at Marshall Metropolitan High School in Chicago. Both projects represent new ways of community engagement and building peace across generations and cultures.

Life Directions: Raising Hope, Building Peace is now available on Amazon or from our office. All proceeds support our focus: LIFE Spiritual Formation Process for 18 to 35 year old young adults.. As I read The Joy of the Gospel by Pope Francis over the winter, I felt I was reading a kindred spirit. Go into the community, engage people, discover their sparks and journey together in loving what is best in them. Reverence God’s life in everyone and the joy of the gospel is ever-present. God created this joy to be in us and to be shared with each other. I thank everyone we have touched for being such a significant part of Life Directions’ journey.

We have copies of the book. If you would like one, contact Bonnie Remenapp at 313.420.0310 or bonnier@lifedirections.org.

And without my grandma and the way life direction had approached our lifestyle in the 1976 til now. I realize the most important how forgiveness and values are the only way to get the generation gap to really get involved and to make sure that we all value each other.. I value life with all those who respects one another values I try my best to be honest when it comes to young people & teenagers..so please pass this message around thank you PEACE.. My friend

Out of violence comes peace for those who believe forgiving is the way to Life that gives hope to the next generation. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. lived this dream of Jesus in the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi.  When the mess of killing is present, the message of hope flows from messengers of peace through justice for all God’s people.

Hi Van, I won't be able to make it. I'm heading out to my sister's to watch her children while she's out at the hospital in an hour. I won't be able to make the event, I'll send a proper e-mail and try to give you a call when I can.
