New blog post! First in an intended series on Social Media from the layperson's perspective.. layperson/customer - that sort of thing. This first one is on Hootsuite, which I love and adore, but it does make me crazy.
Comments/feedback welcome!

G+ Update: Tips for Changing your Google+ Cover Image

I just updated my cover photo after a lot of trial and error and found these resources to be the most helpful.

For starters,I had no idea that you had to scroll up in order to see the entire cover image. Did you know that? I stole Stephan Hovanian's brilliant solution to that...at least until everyone catches on that this is how covers work.

Scale: If you're planning to update your cover image, start with +Stephan Hovnanian 's general guidelines. Beyond sharing the exact image size that you'll need (2120 x 1192), he maps out how your image looks on mobile platforms, apps, and tablets. It's simple and easy-to-follow.

O'Reilly to the rescue!
Windows 8: The Missing Manual

With Windows 8, Microsoft completely reimagined the graphical user interface for its operating system, and designed it to run on tablets as well as PCs. It’s a big change that calls for a trustworthy guide—Windows 8: The Missing Manual. New York Times columnist David Pogue provides technical insight, lots of wit, and hardnosed objectivity to help you hit the ground running with Microsoft’s new OS.

This jargon-free book explains Windows 8 features so clearly—revealing which work well and which don’t—that it should have been in the box in the first place.

Cool!
We're wishing Nicolaus Copernicus a happy 540th birthday today on homepages worldwide. Copernicus's heliocentric model of the universe, which placed the sun—not the earth—at the center, can be seen in action on google.com.
