I have a short article in this issue of Playboy. It's funny how writing for one slick magazine (my first big hit was OMNI) is like a Union card, getting you access to others. At least back then.

Edgar Rice Burroughs Mars books were one of the joys of my misspent youth. When asked what inspired his Star Wars missile defense ideas, Ronald Reagan cited ERB's Mars books as one. So they may have helped end the cold war and Russian communism. The literary writer Michael Chabon, who penned Disney's John Carter film based on the books, is another fan.

Interested in movie memorabilia? Here's some inside info on the upcoming Bonhams/TCM auction featuring costumes from "The Wizard of OZ." The Maltese Falcon sold at last year's auction for more than $4 million!

If you have a peanut allergy, you might be interested in a story I wrote this morning. (Bulk of it is behind a paywall, sorry) but the abstract gives you the gist.

I just like the composition of this shot, made at ConCarolinas in June. I might crop it a bit on the right. #concarolinascharlotte2014

Another amazing harmonica rendition (Amazing Grace) by one of the best players you'll ever hear. Takes her just a minute of talk, but worht the wait. Amazing Grace - Take 2

She's the best diatonic harp player I've ever heard. She turns it into a chromatic instrument doing blow and draw bends (expertly). Just astounding. I have to see if that CD is out yet. Put a big damn smile on my face, finding music this good.

Introduction
I'm a freelance writer/editor and teacher. I've worked for major national magazines from Playboy to Modern Maturity, started two regional business journals and three city magazines. Now focused on technology, science, and business, but also film criticism, film festival coverage, food writing, nutrition, and life style articles on a wide variety of topics.
Published the book, "Lasers, Lightwave of the Future" in 1982, was a contract writer for OMNI magazine's Continuum pages and have work in 2 OMNI anthologies, published science fiction stories, and can occasionally be found at SF conventions.
I'm fond of cats, ice cream, and Ozu (the Japanese director). I collect (and write about) movie memorabilia, particularly Anne Bancroft, John Sayles, Robert Altman, Woody Allen and anything to do with aliens on earth (although I'm a skeptic).
I play blues harmonica, do a few good magic tricks, juggle a bit, and dance better than the average bear, in more ways than one.
