As Americans, it is our duty to ensure that our troops are well equipped to fulfill their missions and return home safely. The defense of our country accounts for 20% of our federal budget, however 50% of our overall spending cuts are now being forced on the backs of our service men and women. Not only does this drastically impact our armed service members, but it threatens thousands of jobs right here in our district. Watch and see how:

Residents in our district are especially hurting at the pump. In California, the average cost per gallon has reached $4.32, up 57 cents from a month ago. It's time that our President put action behind his rhetoric and actually support an "all of the above" energy plan that supports lowering gas prices. He should start by approving the Keystone XL pipeline in its entirety. This would not only move our country away from dependence on foreign oil, but create jobs right here in America.

Under President Obama's proposed budget, military members and retirees will see a huge jump in their Tricare fees. National Defense accounts for 20% of our federal budget, however the President is proposing that 50% of our overall spending cuts be on the backs of our service men and women. Even if we were to completely zero out spending in the Department of Defense, the federal government would still be running on record deficits. It is unacceptable for our heroes who have risked their lives to be welcomed back home with increased expenses for their families.

On the President's repeated apologies on behalf of the American People: I think enough's enough. I'd like to hear some apologies from some of those that have attacked us around the world, that have killed our people.

This afternoon, the JOBS Act received a warm reception from both the Obama Administration as well as Steve Case, a member of the President’s Council on Jobs and Economic Competitiveness. The White House declared the JOBS Act to be a “real opportunity” to help small business and Steve Case issued a statement lauding the “pro-entrepreneurship bill.

Today we voted to extend the payroll tax cut through the end of the year, provide jobless benefits, and preserve the reimbursement rate for doctors who serve medicare patients. This means that middle-class Americans are not hit with a tax increase next month and Social Security Trust Funds are protected. I am very pleased that we worked together to provide relief for American families, workers, employees, and seniors.
