More than 6 million tons of trash – much of it plastic – is believed to enter the ocean each year. For the first time ever, see what and where marine debris is being found by Project AWARE divers on our new interactive map. http://bit.ly/1hQVa36 - Photo Norik Sub, Slovenia

We love it when divers tell us that shark sightings are on the increase: http://ow.ly/vEf4W - In 2011, the Bahamas banned shark fishing and prohibited the sale, import and export of shark products, turning its territorial waters into a shark sanctuary. Photo via Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas

It's the #Easter weekend, the perfect time to egg-splore some eggs-traordinary #sharkfacts! Did you know that the Port Jackson shark embryo develops in a spiral egg case over 9 to 12 months? Photo by Taso Viglas, Bullhead shark feeding on the egg case of a Port Jackson shark. Happy Easter!

Protecting Our Ocean Planet - One Dive at a Time℠
Introduction
Project AWARE Foundation is a growing movement of scuba divers protecting the ocean planet – one dive at a time.

Calling all divers! Join the global movement of divers protecting the Ocean planet. We’re focusing in on two major ocean issues – Sharks in Peril and Marine Debris. Truly, there are many conservation issues converging on our ocean planet at once, but we’re concentrating on these serious problems where scuba divers are uniquely positioned to directly and positively affect real, long-term change in these two areas. If you're interested in taking action to protect the ocean planet - JOIN US!

Project AWARE empowers thousands of divers in more than 180 countries to work together for a clean, healthy and abundant ocean planet. Project AWARE Foundation is a registered non-profit organization.
