We are a Grand Rapids based, husband and wife portrait and wedding photography team with a passion for love, marriage, and creativity.
Whether it is capturing the beauty of our brides, the rugged good looks of our grooms, or the fleeting moments of the wedding day, we do it all with excellence. We cherish the wonderful union of our couples wedding day and hold our selves to the highest standards in assuring we capture the day for its true beauty.
Our creative style is a beautiful combination of timeless elegance, romance and fine art as it all comes together for a story that would be well suited on the walls of an art gallery just as much as in a finely crafted album on your coffee table at home.
We met in late 2012, at an ice skating event, through the college aged ministry at our church. Sharing in creativity and a passion for our faith we immediately hit it off. However, our romance didn’t ensue until the following summer, where in the chill of the evening (and to the sound of an old man singing Lady Gaga off in the distance), on the dock side of the Grand River we stepped into the joys of a relationship together. From there we pursued each other through walks in the park, trips for ice-cream, strolls at the beach, strategically hidden love letters, sweet good morning texts and many lengthy conversations at the nearest Steak N’ Shake.
A short 6 months later we got engaged at a romantic dinner in downtown Grand Rapids, where we enjoyed the company of friends, a horse drawn carriage and a night of Christmas Rock at the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert.
We endured the grueling season of planning the wedding, where Emily meticulously plotted out all the fine details of the day, while I accidentally ate all the cake at our cake tasting before being able to choose our flavors (never schedule cake tasting at lunch time).
Then June 28th 2014 finally arrived. The ladies went off for the morning to get pampered at the salon while having their hair and makeup done, and us fellas tee’d up for a quick shenanigans filled 9 holes on the golf course. The wedding day intensity arrived as I realized I was without my tie for the day just a short 45 minutes before we were scheduled to begin the ceremony. In the mean time Emily’s father was stepping into her room to see her for the first time in her dress. As they shared a touching moment us guys were frantically calling the store to grab a solution for the missing tie. The tension was thick in the groomsmen suite, until moments before the ceremony (literally the last minute), when our superhero of a friend ran through the door with plum purple tie in hand. With a sigh of relief I walked down to the alter where, just a few minutes later, I took the hand of the most gorgeous bride on the face of the planet. The rest of the day was as they say, smooth sailing.
We had began photographing weddings together before we got married, and had photographed each on our own before that, but it wasn’t until after our wedding that we truly appreciated the weight of what we were able to give couples. In receiving the images after your wedding day, and being able to walk back through the memories (and forgotten nuances), you get to truly appreciate the importance of not just memories, but perfectly captured moments that depict the story and the beauty of the best day of our lives. This is why our couples invest in a quality photography team that would capture their day in a timeless way that reflected the time, effort and lets be honest.. money that was invested in the months leading up to it.
We take your wedding day seriously, and continuously invest our time and resources in honing our craft, to be able to offer our couples fresh artistic coverage of their day. Our creative approach not only includes shooting on professional Canon equipment, but also in shooting high-end medium format film cameras to give a unique vision to your images.
Investing in marriages is a strong calling we feel on our lives. We pray over all of our couples from the moment we meet, up to their vows, and then for the months and years afterwards. We love the many friendships we have built with couples in the past, and look forward to the many yet to come.
So.. now that you have had a chance to hear our story, we want to hear yours.
