The world of Apple Watch charging stands is getting more varied and interesting.

Here are a few examples:

Belkin Valet Charge Dock for Apple Watch + iPhone. As its name implies, this is a powered iPhone charging dock and Apple Watch charging stand.

The Valet is notable for having an integrated watch charger. This means users don’t need to add the chargers that came with their watches, and can keep those accessories in reserve.

The Valet is a beautiful product, too.

The watch charger is at the end of a horizontally positioned metal stalk, which is a great way to put the Apple Watch on display. The phone looks nice on its Lightning pedestal, as well.

Griffin WatchStand Powered Charging Station. Griffin has taken its tall, plastic WatchStand and added USB ports along with a padded platform for placing a phone while it charges.

This accessory is not quite as handsome as the Valet, but it is my current favorite because those ports are so handy to have; I used them to charge a Logitech mouse and my Android-based Motorola phone, for instance.

Native Union Dock for Apple Watch This is my favorite dock in a purely design sense.

It's a metal cylinder attached magnetically to a square rubber-sheathed square. The cylinder incorporates the watch's charging puck, and the watchband wraps around the cylinder.

This simple charging-stand design is also flexible. The square can be a flat base, with the cylinder on top. Or the square can be placed erect, with the cylinder jutting out from one side. This is very cool.

Twelve South Forté for Apple Watch. This is a simple but lovely product with a chrome stand affixed onto a leather-wrapped base where a phone would go. It’s gorgeous.

JustMobile TimeStand. If metal is your thing, you’ll love this cylindrical, hefty, solid-aluminum stand with a modest footprint (it’s only two inches in diameter).

I reviewed an older batch of Apple Watch stands for TidBITS:

Great collection, one thing to consider, some like the griffin won't work with all watches - or more accurately all straps. Milanese loop/link won't work on those style stands

Tech writer. Nerd. Boricua. Cover picture by Steve Borsch.

I’ve had a lifelong fascination with technology, and I’ve been a journalist all my life — starting with my cute little articles for my grade-school newspaper, “La Flama,” in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

So, in a way, I’m one of the luckiest persons alive: I work as a technology journalist.

Today, I cover consumer technology for for, a MediaNews Group and Digital First Media property, and its St. Paul Pioneer Press dead-tree counterpart.

I report on a wide range of tech topics, post often to my tech blog, and slap together tech videos from time to time (when I’m not in one).

I also write books on occasion.

My third, recently released book, The Mobile Writer, is aimed at those who want to be productive on mobile devices (such as iPads and Android tablets) but don’t know how to get started. The book is a tech-gear and how-to guide for those wanting to get real writing done on ultraportable computing gadgets, but confused about their many hardware and software options.

Buy The Mobile Writer  here.

I’m also the author of iPad Means Business and Twitter Means Business. A fourth, coffee-themed book is in the planning stages.

I’m active on TwitterGoogle+ and Facebook, among other social networks.

I make frequent appearances on local and national TV-news broadcasts, radio programs and technology podcasts. This blog has archived video or audio of most such media appearances.

I speak with some regularity about journalism, technology and social media (and how the three intersect). A number of such engagements are archived here in video or audio form.

I’m a nerd (in the sci-fi-fanatic and tech-enthusiast senses of the word). I love to merengue, make sushi and brew that perfect cup of café (watch me rave about my favorite coffeemaker).

A native of Quito, Ecuador, I spent most of my childhood in San Juan and wear the “boricua” badge with pride.

I live with my wife and son in St. Paul, Minn., where I sometimes grumble about the non-tropical climate but love to strap on a snowboard.

Get out of your KFC rut. Pollo Campero, a fast-food chain of Guatemalan origin, serves divine grilled chicken along with to-die-for empanadas, tasty beans, awesome yucca fries (that could make you forget all about the potato variants) and fried plantains. I eat here a lot with my family and the staff knows and pampers us now ... but you'll be treated well, too. You won't have your food brought to your table at KFC. Oh, Campero has fried chicken, too. It's good, but the grilled chicken is better. You may disagree. Check it out and see! You may never again go to KFC.

Two bites into her rama spinach peanut curry, my wife reacted badly to something in the dish and almost coughed up a lung. I sent the dish back, explaining that my wife was in distress, and asked for something else on the menu. Management refused to provide a replacement dish and insisted on charging us for the mostly uneaten plate. We refused to pay for it, paid for the rest of the bill (no tip) and left. We will never eat there again.
