Tech writer. Nerd. Boricua. Cover picture by Steve Borsch.
Introduction

I’ve had a lifelong fascination with technology, and I’ve been a journalist all my life — starting with my cute little articles for my grade-school newspaper, “La Flama,” in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

So, in a way, I’m one of the luckiest persons alive: I work as a technology journalist.

Today, I cover consumer technology for for TwinCities.com, a MediaNews Group and Digital First Media property, and its St. Paul Pioneer Press dead-tree counterpart.

I report on a wide range of tech topics, post often to my tech blog, and slap together tech videos from time to time (when I’m not in one).

I also write books on occasion.

My third, recently released book, The Mobile Writer, is aimed at those who want to be productive on mobile devices (such as iPads and Android tablets) but don’t know how to get started. The book is a tech-gear and how-to guide for those wanting to get real writing done on ultraportable computing gadgets, but confused about their many hardware and software options.

Buy The Mobile Writer  here.

I’m also the author of iPad Means Business and Twitter Means Business. A fourth, coffee-themed book is in the planning stages.

I’m active on TwitterGoogle+ and Facebook, among other social networks.

I make frequent appearances on local and national TV-news broadcasts, radio programs and technology podcasts. This blog has archived video or audio of most such media appearances.

I speak with some regularity about journalism, technology and social media (and how the three intersect). A number of such engagements are archived here in video or audio form.

I’m a nerd (in the sci-fi-fanatic and tech-enthusiast senses of the word). I love to merengue, make sushi and brew that perfect cup of café (watch me rave about my favorite coffeemaker).

A native of Quito, Ecuador, I spent most of my childhood in San Juan and wear the “boricua” badge with pride.

I live with my wife and son in St. Paul, Minn., where I sometimes grumble about the non-tropical climate but love to strap on a snowboard.

By yours truly at TidBITs.com: Instagram has Apple (Including Mac) appeal. You can even post to the service from your Mac! http://bitly.com/2drNu88
The photo-sharing service Instagram isn’t just for millennials and selfie-snapping celebs. Anyone who is serious about iPhone photography should take a look. Instagram also can be used to a large extent on the Mac, giving it surprisingly broad Apple appeal.

Google Street View is not just for streets anymore. Meet Google Trekker, which recently went off-road in St. Paul to capture its out-of-the-way wonders.
That bright-green ball has 15 cameras pointing every which way, allowing St. Paul to be photographed as never before.

I'm kind of an Instagram junkie. I talked about my favorite iPhone- and Mac-based Instagram tools on a Social Media Breakfast - Minneapolis/St. Paul panel recently.
Once lukewarm at best about Instagram, I have in recent years come to adore the photography-focused social network. I use it personally, and also professionally as a main caretaker of the Pioneer P…
