CATHEDRAL IN THE DESERT
This spectacular spot is one of my favorites of Lake Powell and is considered by many the heart of Glen Canyon. Located at the end of Clear Creek Canyon, The Cathedral in the Desert is a narrow, towering spectacular canyon leading to a lush grotto, myriads of mud pools, waterfalls, seeps and rocks of the most amazing colors and hues. As the lake changes levels different parts of the area are uncovered or accessible, every time it's different and always a surprise.
Clear Creek Canyon is very narrow and winding, you never know what's around the next blind curve. As you approach the end, the walls glow with bounce light from all angles like stained glass windows in a towering Cathedral. This image was taken after a short wet hike into the "grotto" and I could have stayed here for days in this towering amphitheater of color and light.
