Interesting. We don't really have control over our data once it's out there, and avoiding social networks only makes it more obvious that we have something to hide.

general questions about obamacare (NOT political)

Hi guys,
I'm a 30+ single male, full time student, part time jobs.

Currently, my health insurance costs me more than $200 a month, and that's actually good (used to be 350). I am considering switching to obamacare, but I'm not sure with all the negativity going on about it.

My questions:
1. What is so wrong about it? I keep hearing how all health insurance companies are upset but it sounds like political talks to me, basically they are forced to give cheaper plans, no one pays for these plans (people my age don't sign up), is that all it is?

2. If I get it correctly, obamacare is not health insurance on its own, it's a law telling other health insurance companies to give out cheaper health plans via the market place. Is that so? And if I'm right, is it true what I'm hearing that these cheap policies are temporary and will expire in a year, or am I confusing the fact that this is basically the deadline to sign up for health insurance?

I looked online but I'm getting lost in what the obamacare law is (got it) why is it good (on the official website) why it is bad (everywhere else) and in the middle I'm just confused. Was wondering if anyone could shed some light for me.

Thanks!

+Ron Phillips but if I sign up, will it expire in a year? That's my main concern, that I will be without insurance in a year unless I buy into a new expensive policy.

Yeah, it's some kind of an old apple router. The thing is, it works great for the rest of the household (even though was told bandwidth is a problem if too many computers are on)

+Marty Goetting, I would, but this is an island and we're talking about woods and people's private back yards... Yeah I need to get back to civilization lol

Google Play Services Issue - need help

My friend has my Evo 3d a d constantly runs into an error message that says google services is not supported by her device. When I flash a fresh rom (already tried 3, including CM and Venom) the problem goes away, but eventually the phone restarts on its own and the problem returns.

I can't upgrade GPS from the store, it says it's already updated. Flashing google apps from the zip doesn't help either, it does nothing. Anyone else else ran into this problem?

I tried xda forums but I don't see something similar besides one thread that ends with a solution that doesn't work for me. This error affects important apps for her like hangouts and foursquare. These app would not rub, producing this error message instead.

• Try clearing cache from power menu.
• Try downloading and installing Google Play .apk from AndroidPolice.com (they are good and your Play Store could be bad/corrupted.)
• Try clear data/factory reset.

I'm making my way back to Evernote and I want to use reminders more productively. I know they can make a good to-do list, but the issue I'm having is that I have to change the note's name to fit the task, otherwise it makes no sense.

I can have a note which is the result of 2, 3, or even 5 merged notes of information that I collect. Renaming this note to whatever task I need to do next and apply a reminder sound a bit cumbersome.. no? I just wonder what you guys are doing and how you use reminders, especially as part of your to do lists.

I think that combining the TSW method (http://www.thesecretweapon.org/) and EN's reminders is one of the easiest and best way if you want that EN will become your central hub for productivity.

The problem with ACA is that no one had the balls to do it right. There are definitely good things in there, such as making illegal caps on benefits and restrictions on "preexisting conditions" and mandating coverage of certain preventative care like checkups and mamograms

the problem is it has no teeth. As the last two weeks have shown, there is nothing preventing insurance companies screwing their customers by canceling policies for legal or paperwork reasons and then forcing them into more expensive ones. a well written law would instead have made them add coverage to existing policies at the same rate and then eat the difference out of their mind-bending profit margins.

another problem is that while it is compulsory for the consumer, you HAVE to have coverage, it is NOT compulsory for the states or for the insurance companies to offer that coverage. many states have opted not to expand medicaide coverage to provide affordable coverage to low-income individuals, and many insurance providers have declined to take part in the "healthcare exchanges" so they also are not making that low-cost coverage available. Again, a better crafted law would have mandated these sorts of actions, since they are hand-in-hand with the consumer mandate to have insurance.

and NONE of the law does SACK JHIT to actually address the COSTS of healthcare, such as the insane price of consumables like insulin test strips, or medical durable devices, which run between five and ten times what their manufacturing and materials costs actually run. Or office and ER visits where the prices are pretty much pulled out of a bodily orifice than any sort of logical price point. Or pharmaceuticals, which are as much as 200% more here in the states than across the border in Canada or Mexico for the same drugs.

Things like controlling business costs and forcing businesses to make equitable pricing decisions is too much like dirty socialism to ever get passed in America.

unfortunately, as I said, it's compulsory for the consumer, so unless you're getting insurance at work or from a parent's plan, you HAVE to buy insurance or pay a not-insubstantial penalty every year on your taxes.

so just hope that your state is one where the exchange is well-populated, and/or where medicade has been expanded to people in your income bracket.

SciFi challenges

I want to use my phone to trigger things around the house when I'm home. I realize this is a pretty big project that goes beyond just taker, so any tips as to how complicated it can be and how expensive will be nice! I'm going to break it down in a way that makes sense.

+ First, I want my computer to wake up when I'm home. Easy enough I think with wake by LAN, I know tasker has these options. I have a PC with Windows 7 pro
+ Second, I want to be able to tell my phone what to play music from my computer by voice. Commands such as "play cool jazz" or "play rock," etc. I have the tasker voice plugin installed, the problem is with the computer. I use Google Play for my music... how can I automate it over there?
+ Third, it would be really nice if my computer could fire up Netflix and set up duel screens (I have my TV attached) when I say netflix. I'd like to be able to use my phone as a remote when this happens (tasker could activate the right app) so I could choose what to watch.
+ forth idea (yeah I'm greedy...) I saw it on +Armando Ferreira's video, I'd like my lights to turn on or off (especially one light in the livingroom) when I enter the apartment. I realize I need to buy a special adapter for that.
+ Fifth have my phone "welcome home, sir" when it's plugged in my house. Then ask me "shall I play some music?" and if I say yes, it will ask what music and play according to what I described earlier. (it doesn't need to to be an if then statement, it just need to be in listening mode basically so when I say something it does it).

Sooooo how would you at making some of the scifi stuff here real?

They were renovating for a while (that's why they closed off parts, not because they felt like it). It's a gym, a bit toward the expensive side, but still reasonable. There's plenty of space, especially now, but I think they could reduce costs or give a discount while renovating, it was a long, annoying month.

Do yourself a favor and do NOT shop here. To be fair, we found some nice desks (we shopped for a computer desk) for a pretty fair price. Nelle, the owner, seemed to be happy to help at start but quickly got distracted. He tried to push more products and suggest a special drawer stand for the desk for us for an outrageous price. Since we had no time, we agreed to it at the end. Drawers cost us more than $100, where I could get something similar in Staples for probably as little as $40. And then things started getting worse. Nelle promised us a delivery date he could not back up. We ended up waiting for more than two weeks for an order that was supposed to show up after a week. He did not contact us, did not leave messages, he basically did nothing to inform us that there's a delay, we had to call and find out on our own. The was a delay twice. In order to sweeten the deal, Nelle said the desk will be assembled for us. That never happened. The desk came in three different parts, still wrapped up. If someone tried to put it up, they did not finish the job. The guy who delivered the desk was in a hurry, mumbled something, and left the table as is. The furniture seem to be in overall okay shape, but I could have just showed up and take it on my own, for the price they charged us for the delivery (the table is not put up together anyway). The owner also confuses his customers and doesn't seem to know who he's talking to. I gave him identifying information, but he cut me off and told me he left a message, when in fact, it wasn't me he was thinking about. After some back and forth he gave me a quick "yesyesyes" and assured me the table is on it's way. Good thing I called to find out. In short: They have okay things, some of which are for normal prices (do not get drawers and chairs there!!), but they know nothing about customer service and responsibility.
