Kotlin is a statically typed programming language that you can use in front-end, back-end, and Android development. The best part is, it’s 100% interoperable with Java and works with Javascript! With a modern language called Kotlin, you can do it right - faster - and with less bugs!

In this talk, Matt Runo will go over what you need to know to dive into your first Kotlin project.. syntax, basic structure, and how to not be lost when you’re listening to a more advanced discussion of Kotlin’s features. You don’t need to know Java, but some familiarity with object oriented languages will help you follow along with this short introduction to the Kotlin language. Swag included.

Matt Runo is a software engineer currently working for American Express. He has over 6 years of experience developing Android apps and web services for Zappos.com, Tinder and SHIFT. Matt enjoys both the technical challenges presented by resource constrained systems like Android, as well as the art of creating beautiful UIs that are intuitive and a joy to use. When not coding, he enjoys flying, getting lost in Wikipedia, and long walks on the beach.
