I’ve done a horrible thing to my daughter
It all started with the best of intentions. I didn’t mean to cause any harm. In retrospect, I blame my daughter and her oh so “innocent” questions.

“Where did you hear that song Daddy?”, she asked. Innocent indeed! I had made her a sandwich with the crusts...

I can't do this any more
Not this, of course. I could do this on a strictly irregular, inconsistent basis for an indefinite period of time. What I can't do any longer is, well, it's a bit hard to explain. I love movies (yes, and tea, and cars and chocolate, can you stay on topic? I...

Tea complexity
I like tea. Since I've started drinking tea without milk or sugar, I've become particular (some might say OCD, but those people don't care what kind of warm brownish liquid they pour into their mouths, now do they) about how my cup is brewed. I used to insi...

#Wiregate ... Apple is making a lot of wonderful products to be sure, but there are some key areas where it really sucks. One area is with their wires.

As I was waking up my MacBook I looked at the power cable and I noticed that it looked a lot worse than how I remembered it.

Now, everyone I know are struggling with fraying cables from Apple. And what most people have done (including me) is to wrap some tape around it when it first started fraying at the point where it is bent. This kind of solves the problem.

But look at how my cable looks today (and this cable being only three years old). It's no longer just fraying. It's falling apart. The plastic has 'aged' to a point where it's no longer plastic.

You know when you put a cheap plastic bag in a box and forget about it for a few years. And how, when you take it out again, it crumbles into tiny pieces. That's what's happening here.

This outrageous, because this is not the first time this has happened. Every single cable I have from Apple has frayed. My iPad charger is frayed. My old iPhone cable is frayed. I have five, yes five, Apple headphones, all with frayed wires, my old MacBook pro power cable is frayed, and my latest power cable (as seen below) hasn't just frayed but is apparently crumbling as well.

I have tons of wires from other manufacturers in my home. I have headphone wires that are 20 years old and still look like new. I have network cables, USB cables, power wires ... all of them doing just fine.

But for some weird reason Apple's cables continue to have this problem.

I now have to buy a new power supply, because I obviously can't use this wire anymore. The price of that is $100 ... yep $100!! (it's $79 in the US, but we have a 25% sales tax in Denmark)

And, for that money, you don't get a power supply that actually works. You just get one exactly like the one I have now, which will fray too, like every cable from Apple. I have to pay $100 for something that I know won't last.

So yes, Apple, I'm pissed.

This is unacceptable product quality. Go to Google and search for 'Apple frayed cable' and you will find thousands of results. If you go to Apple's own store there are 54 five-star reviews and 489 one-star reviews, all of which complain about poor quality. And many of those five star reviews are actually one-star. One person reviewed it as, 'This needs to be recalled for terrible quality and design', and gave it a five-star rating.
