This month, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is hosting the first (of many) GeoHackJams.

GeoHackJams are a series of monthly participatory events to encourage the use of open data, as well as free and open source geospatial and visualization tools, to creatively tackle challenges that are pitched by projects, and to produce quick and innovative proof-of-concepts.

Each GeoHackJam is organized around the following theme each month, and this month the theme is "Critical Minerals and Resources."

GeoHackJams are open to the public and are intended to engage USGS scientists, domain experts in minerals, GIS experts, government and industry partners, academia and students, technology developers, designers and artists, data scientists, and communicators.

This month's GeoHackJam on Critical Minerals and Resources will take place on Friday, March 17 (10:30 am - 5:00 pm) at USGS in Reston, VA, and on Saturday, March 18 (11:00 am - 5:00 pm) in Washington, DC, with a "Mappy Hour" (5:00 - 7:00 pm) after each day.

You can register to attend the 1st GeoHackJam here: http://bit.ly/1stGeoHackJamRegistration

If anyone hears of a permanent, direct technical writing position either in the Central NJ area, or one that can be done primarily remotely/virtually, please let me know. I have 23+ years of experience, as well as a BSEE degree. I am ramping up my search (while still employed,) effective immediately.

If you are disturbed by the historical - and ongoing - sexual harassment of women within the academic science fields - particularly astronomy - then please attend/watch this important hangout tomorrow. And please share this with all of your contacts across all social media channels.  THANKS! +Pamela L. Gay +Fraser Cain
Join +Fraser Cain  and +Pamela Gay for a live episode of Astronomy Cast. We'll record our 30-minute show, and then stay tuned for them to answer questions!

What happened to Event pages? I don't see a link to them in the sidebar... have they been eliminated?

Join Fraser Cain and a rotating crew of space journalists to talk about the biggest news in space and astronomy.

This week we welcome Dr. Rhys Taylor,  Former Arecibo Post Doc; Current research involves looking for galaxies in the 21cm waveband. He's also an amateur CGI artist.
