Knowing the scope of this problem is a healthy first step for parents.  Parents of children with ID/DD should think about this like emergency preparedness -- if you have thought it through ahead of time, you may actually be prepared to act effectively so that an offender is apprehended and your child can begin benefiting from a tertiary response as soon as possible.
