Is anyone else having issues creating variables today? I click on Custom Event and there's no fields shown to enter the event name. Have tried in Chrome, Firefox and Edge to no avail.

General Questions  -

Picture this:

Page A contains this in the body:
<div class="overlay-homepage"><span></span></div>

Page B contains:
<div class="overlay-results"><span></span></div>

I can use this script to identify if they contain an overlay class with this:

function() {
var htmlString = $('body').html().toString();
var index = htmlString.indexOf("div class=\"overlay-");
if (index != -1)
return("It works");
}

For the return value, instead of "It works", how do I get it to pull in the rest of the class name e.g. "overlay-results" or if needs be the whole div content e.g. "<div class="overlay-results"><span></span></div>"?

There are many other pages like this with different 'overlay-' class names so don't want to do one for each hence this 'one size fits all' approach.

Thanks +Simo Ahava. My JS is very limited so no surprises on your comment. Thanks for the solution though.

Hey, I'd  like to use a rule for various buttons within a <section> based on the text of the <h2> text for that <section>.

Below is an example of the HTML where I'd like to record the clicks of BUTTON 1, BUTTON 2, or BUTTON 3 if the h2 value is 'THIS IS THE H2 TEXT':

<section class="section">
  <div class="section__title">
    <h2>THIS IS THE H2 TEXT</h2>
  </div>
  <div class="container">
    <div class="inner-content">
        <p>Example Text</p>
    </div>
  </div>
  <div>
    <div class="container">
      <div class="column">
        <h4>TITLE</h4>
        <a href="/link1/">BUTTON 1</a>
      </div>
      <div class="column">
        <h4>TITLE</h4>
        <span id="newsletter"></span>
        <a href="/link2/">BUTTON 2</a>
      </div>
      <div class="column">
        <h4>TITLE</h4>
        <a href="/link3/">BUTTON 3</a>
      </div>
    </div>
  </div>
</section>

Can you help with the JavaScript for the Macro?

Thanks in advance.

Hey we've been putting together a list of the spam bot referrals you see in GA that need to be excluded.

There are now over 25 GA filters required to remove the 400+ spam referral domains!!! Going forward we suggest you use this amazing spam filter tool from Simo Ahava, http://www.simoahava.com/spamfilter/. It does all the hard work for you (yay!).

Questions  -

Has anyone experienced Source / Medium like the ones highlighted in the pic? Surely they should just be a part of the categories that already exist. There's no referral URL. Is it incorrect utm URL tracking used on links from another site?

Is it right to add the a site's domain in the 'Referral Exclusion List' of your GA Property Settings?

I've heard conflicting reasons both for and against. Would be great to get a more conclusive answer.

Anyone know how to retrieve the text of a H3 tag that came before the Click Element using Custom JS? Have tried a few options but it's not working. Thanks in advance.

Ended up with this in the end as it needs to look up the tree first.
function(){
  return jQuery({{Click Element}}).closest(".test").find("h3.test").text();
}

General Questions  -

I found this macro script to identify if an element's parent has a specific class value. Is there a way to modify it to record the value and then use a rule to specify the name.

function crawlByClassName () {
    var el = {{element}};

    while (el && el !== document.body && el.className !== 'INSERT CLASS NAME') {
        el = el.parentElement;
    }

    return el.className === 'INSERT CLASS NAME';
}

What can I say, Liza captured our day perfectly and we can't thank her enough. Throughout the day we barely noticed she was there but the resulting photos were absolutely amazing and beyond our expectations. It wasn't just on the day though that she was impressive. Liza consulted with us beforehand to find exactly what we wanted which meant she was prepared on the day and didn't waste our time. Liza commanded the crouds very professionally with a hint of banter which is always welcome. As you'll see on Liza's website, the photos are magnificent. If we had to do it all again there's no doubt that Liza would remain as our photographer. Thanks for everything.
