Linas Baltas is one of the more active composers of the young generation, who has been working in quite diverse genres. In his work the composer devotes a great deal of attention to the structural aspect of composition; however, his music is characteristic for its effective sound and is 'democratic' in its own way. One of the most distinct opuses by the composer is “Arc” for a string orchestra, not once performed by the St. Christopher’s Chamber Orchestra.
Music is feelings and thoughts of composer. That was always my understanding about Music. It made me feel open to other people, and in other hand it is responsibility to be understandable. I think clearer and simpler is composer in his work it makes his music original and unique. Every composer is building his own experience, which makes his music “grown up”. In my opinion no one can teach you to create the music, even most famous and popular composers wouldn’t be able to do that. There is no magic book, which one can read and learn to create and that is wonderful! It is so unique experience. I found it very attractive that is very personal and composer has to find his own way, from thought to music’s masterpiece.
Music Composition studies at Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy gave me perfect theoretical background and possibility to expand my knowledge and gain experience in composing under guidance and supervision of the best Composers in Lithuania. Most important and fascinating thing to me was that my compositions were performed and well rated. That was always my big wish to be able to create music which is understandable and enjoyable. I have been lucky to meet in my music career very fascinating people and composers. Master class with L. Andriessen was very special, as he inspired me to open my mind to new ideas. I grew up as person and composer. In early years I have been interested in Minimalism compositions and Twelve-tone technique, more recently I have started to pay more attention to structural manipulation of material and started to use infinite series technique in compositions. I have found myself composing more music for symphony orchestras. It is still my main passion and interest. My music got performed by best Orchestras in Lithuania at Contemporary Music Festivals and Concerts. It made my music open to wider public. It was welcomed by public very well and that was reassurance to me as Composer that my chosen way is right.
