Marv Rotblatt, 1927-2013
Mr. Rotblatt appeared in only 35 major league games, but a small college memorialized him with an annual softball game that now lasts nearly 150 innings.

Thank goodness! Now here's hoping they recognize this right for digital commerce!
langelgjm writes "In a closely-watched case, the U.S. Supreme Court today vindicated the first-sale doctrine, declaring that it "applies to copies of a copyrighted work lawfully made abroad." The case involved a Thai graduate student in the U.S. who sold cheap foreign versions of textbooks on eBay without the publisher's permission. The 6-3 decision has important implications for goods sold online and in discount stores. Justice Stephen Breyer sa...

I just requested a checked baggage fee refund from +United Airlines after my flight on 31 December was canceled. They were very courteous and replied within three days of my request approving the refund, but I'm kind of surprised that they didn't automatically issue a refund after the flight was canceled.

Hopefully this is just a merger hiccup and not a company policy of not refunding baggage fees unless they receive an explicit request from a customer.

Google Play's album sales taking me back to 2006. Do you think "We Share Our Mothers' Health" sounds like automobile tires bouncing down the road?

Cafe Japon: Japanese Restaurant
113 East Liberty Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104
I came here for a late lunch and had an exceptional sandwich--simple ingredients but well-balanced with great bread and soup. It may well be the best sandwich I've had in town. The catch, though is that you have to be patient. Even though the dining room was empty when I came in for lunch at 3p, it still took a good half-hour before my food was on the table. Good and friendly service, but slow service.

Just taught Google Maps that 'a2' means Ann Arbor and 'Ypsi' is Ypsilanti!

Google Maps has been updated to correct the problem you reported. You can see the update here:

"The city of Ann Arbor is colloquially known as A2, but Google Maps doesn't recognize this name. It would be helpful to have the metadata updated to include this name, since it's easier to search for a2 on a mobile."
Add to and update the map with Google Map Maker, and see your edits in Google Maps. Start mapping the places you know.

I'm surprised by the Google privacy policy backlash, my first reaction was that the new privacy policy was clear enough and short enough that I cared to read and understand it. If it is more permissive than old privacy policies (is it?), it's just as permissive as I assumed the old privacy policies already were.

We dined here on our honeymoon and had an exceptional meal with exceptional service. A simple fried egg with truffle was a highlight, but all of the dishes were among the best we enjoyed in Italy. The service was friendly and attentive, and the kitchen sent out a few extra bites and poured an extra digestif for us--a show of generosity that made an excellent meal even more memorable.

Easily the finest Italian-style pizza I've ever enjoyed. I had a simple margarita pizza that was somehow richer and more delicious than any other pizza I ate on my travels--maybe it tasted good because I had to wait an hour for a table, maybe it was the ingredients, who knows. The bottom line is, I'm glad I waited because it's not a pizza I'll soon forget.

This large, loud, operationally complicated Pakistani restaurant has become a consistent stop for us when we visit Toronto. We steer towards the vegetarian dishes, missing out on the meats that the menu touts, but we love our chana masala, paneer tikka masala, and spinach served in hot cast-iron pans. The naan is very good too, and you can watch the bakers pull it out of the tandoors while you wait for a table. The service is strange, and the decor very inconsistent and occasionally cheap, but it all adds up to an interesting atmosphere that makes me wonder if it's all part of making the restaurant that much more authentic. I only regret that all of the service is Styrofoam; I wish it was something more easily composted or recycled.

Solid, run-of-the-mill sushi. We had some creative rolls--one that came with thin slices of lemon wedge on top--but nothing at O'Sushi stood out and we're not likely to go back. My go-to sushi restaurants (Totoro and Miki) offer better rolls and better atmospheres at a similar price.

We stopped in for a Sunday brunch of an omelette and huevos rancheros and really enjoyed our meal; both were well-made and were just the right size to fill us up without making us regret the last few bites. The patio was comfortable, the service friendly, the coffee good, and the banana bread--brought out as a free two-bite starter--sweet and delicious.

A fine breakfast, but not recommended. My omelette's vegetables seemed rather flavorless; the pancake that came with it was well-made but served cold. I tried smoked salmon eggs benedict that were quite good, but overall we were well fed but not well impressed.

We stopped in for the first time and tried cheese enchiladas along with fried avocado tacos. Both were enjoyable, but seemed pretty par for the Mexican restaurant course. The corn on the cob covered in chili-lime powder was a highlight, but the beans seemed a little thin, missing the umami that I hope for. The fresh chips and salsa were also above-average, but overall the meal wasn't special enough that I'm likely to return.
