The second part of the survey of Ballybough is now posted.

I am starting to see a trend of less care for traditional features of the cottages as I move down through Ballybough.

Also general dereliction on Ballybough Road itself is a pity and seems to be generally accepted and ignored.

A little shabby chic on Russell Avenue. Though the facade has been covered by pebble dash the original brickwork seems to be fighting through. this cottage really shows the importance of the old style window and door - the sash and red painted timber really add charm and character to the cottage. Introduction
A blog dedicated to the preservation, restoration and celebration of Irish Cottages and culture.

I write about and photograph all types of Irish Cottages from the bare bones in the fields, to fully restored cottages for rent to the cute city cottages.  All have a special place in Irish history and architecture and hopefully by highlighting them, less will be lost to high density / low cost / high profit developments.

I am currently working on a project documenting the cottages of Dublin City.  Very few streets of cottages remain in many part of the city, they are slowly being relegated to a distant memory in the city.  I hope to interview older inhabitants of the cottages to document their memories and experiences before they are lost to time.

I believe their existence is utterly essential to the development of the city by providing diversity of accomodation and retaining the culture and charm of Dublin.
