http://martialartsgilbert.com - Tanto jutsu or knife skills kihon (fundamentals) starts with a yokomenuchi strike and then followed with a Kaieshi yokomenuchi. This starts the beginning level student to understand the flow of knife work and how fluid it becomes as more intermediate and advanced levels of training. http://martialartsgilbert.com

http://martialartsgilbert.com - Tanto Yokomenuchi - In Tanto jutsu or knife skills we start with what is called Kihon in Japanese. This literally means fundamentals. The first fundamental strike we learn with the knife is Yokomenuchi. There are several henka or in English variations of this, however the focus is more on control and accuracy when learning kihon techniques. http://martialartsgilbert.com

http://martialartsgilbert.com - Ushiro Tekubi Dori Shihonage
This technique is broken down like this: Ushiro = attack from the rear, Tekubi = wrist grab, Dori simply means attack, and Shiho Nage = Four Corner Throw because it denotes that when the technique is applied correctly you will see all 4 corner of the room you are training in. http://www.martialartsgilbert.com

The Budo Shingikan Dojo is a school geared towards creating students who one day can be brought into the 'Yudansha-Kai' (Black Belt organization).
It means that in our school every aspect of study is committed to getting each and every one of our students into the black belt ranks and beyond.
Further it means that we help each student strive for Yudansha excellence in their training as well as in all other aspects of their life. This means that as a student you will be expected to go "above and beyond".
Being Yudansha and striving for Black Belt excellence is more than wearing a black belt and hakama. It describes the attitude that training in Bushin Ryu develops within the practitioner.
The benefits of this attitude carry over into every aspect of our daily lives.
It is embodied in these traits:
1) Happy but not satisfied: happy with ones progress yet constantly striving toward self-betterment.
2) Compare yourself, not to others, but to your own potential: comparing yourself to your potential helps you to set realistic goals and not to expect too much or demand too little from your training. Therefore, comparison to your own potential is the only comparison that generates reliable feedback.
3) Keep emotions in balance: every emotion has an appropriate time and place. If we are able to respond with the appropriate emotion, at the appropriate time, with the appropriate intensity, then we will have the best possible experience. There is a time to be stern and a time to be compassionate.
4) Expect positive results: the philosophies taught in Bushin Ryu require that students look for the good in every situation and make the most out of it. While training everyone experiences occasional setbacks, i.e. busy schedule, difficult techniques, sore muscles, and the list goes on. Instead of saying "Why is this happening to me?" think of saying, "What is good about this, and how can it benefit me?" With this attitude everything becomes a learning experience, and we are able to cope with the day-to-day challenges that are life's rewards.
