Do you have the skills to be an ambassador for wildlife? We need a talented conservationist and communicator to recruit more farmers to the Fair to Nature scheme and increase the area of wildlife habitats on our farmland. This is an RSPB position working closely with Fair to Nature. Closing date for applications is 19th January 2017. http://ow.ly/CFI3307OT55

The sun shone down on us yesterday at our winter update for #FairtoNature farmers at Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT)'s Leicestershire farm. Discussion ranged from cover crop management to improve soil health and reduce erosion to how we would like to see post Brexit agricultural policy shape up to benefit both the environment and the farmers that look after it.

Great news for Cirl Buntings, back from the brink. The efforts of the RSPB Love Nature and Natural England Cirl Bunting Project has resulted in the number of breeding pairs in the UK increasing from 118 pairs in 1989 to 1,078 pairs this year! The key habitat for this little member of the Bunting family is mixed farming as it needs both grass and winter stubble. Farmers have played a vital role in the recovery of this species. http://ow.ly/5yqM306gh4e

We are very pleased to announce a new three year partnership with the RSPB Love Nature that will enable both organisations to make a real difference to farmland wildlife. We are working closely with colleagues in the RSPB to attract more farmers to the Fair to Nature farming scheme. Produce from Fair to Nature farms goes into Fair to Nature accredited products that you can purchase in shops so we can all help our wildlife. http://ow.ly/twSP3062qdM

The Mammal Society hedgehog survey closes at the end of this week. Even if you haven't seen a hedgehog this year please complete the survey. The more people that take part, the clearer the picture will be of how hedgehogs are faring in the UK http://ow.ly/qdWG305ZYAS

It's still not looking good for turtle doves as a breeding species in the UK. The latest UK Breeding Bird Survey report (2015), published last week, shows that turtle dove numbers have continued to decline - by a massive 93% since 1994! But what can be done about it? Well, we can support our farmers in their efforts to provide vital nesting and foraging habitats for these iconic birds. How? By supporting Operation Turtle Dove; by buying #FairtoNature products; by reporting turtle dove sightings; by helping to raise awareness... http://ow.ly/HS5B302h7SY
