I've noticed that "Please" and "thank you" are endangered social graces among young people today. Have you noticed this also? What to do?

Yes. Also have noticed they don't say "goodbye" at the end of a call.

by Judy Gruen"Who bought all this stuff?” my son asked in astonishment the other night. The question was not a brazen act of chutzpah. The living room looked like it had been air bombed with heavy

The Book of Ruth: It’s Not About Where We Have Been, It’s About Where We Are Going
The Book of Ruth: It's Not About Where We Have Been, It's About Where We Are Going. Each year on the holiday of Shavuot (Pentacost), I love reading the Book of Ruth. Like so many of the narratives that fill Jewish history, the Book of Ruth is poignant, filled with drama, emotional honesty and ...

12 Rules for a Civil Society, Courtesy of George Washington. My husband and I found a gem of a little book while browsing the gift shop at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. It's called George Washington's Rules of Civility & Decent Behaviour in Company and Conversation, (Applewood Books) ...

We are probably on different standpoints but I agree that for many people guided choices are the best thing, pragmatically speaking.

My favorite modern fiction reads; none of them current bestsellers but all of them memorable and worthwhile. What would you add to this list?

A very short story about winning by letting go.
Cliches: Bad for Writing; Better as Philosophy. I'm always on the lookout for clichés. When I find them slipping into my own writing, I excise them out. Spotting them in my clients' writing, I suggest alternatives. Too many cliches make for unimaginative writing, but some cliches are so wise and ...

Make this Passover about more than just cleaning and sweeping; make it about a rendezvous with your destiny.
How to Make Your Passover a Rendezvous with God. Dura Europos synagogue wall painting depicting Jews leaving Egypt. The work of art is in the public domain. More than 3300 years ago, God swept the Jewish people out from slavery in Egypt, where we had toiled for 210 years.

After 18 years of dedicated and selfless parenting, all they can say when they leave is, "Bye! Thanks!"?

Jonah Light is a wonderful photographer, terrific to work with. In the past few years, I have had him do my author photo; formal family photos, and our son's wedding. With each particular occasion he took wonderful shots, captured meaningful and revealing expressions that make for the most memorable photos. And he is patient and cheerful when you are trying unsuccessfully to choose among so many great shots. I cannot recommend him highly enough!
