Size matters.
We wrote about the new Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 (Model A022) lens when it was announced at the beginning of the month but it was only at the photokina show in Germany last week that we got to see this impressive superzoom in person. And man, is it big!

More new glass from Cologne.
Photokina 2016 may have ended, but we have a couple more interesting lens introductions to share with you: Leica’s 50mm f/1.4 Summilux SL ASPH, and the Lensbaby Twist60 announced earlier in the U.S.

Dynamite lighting tips from Alexis Cuarezma!
Alexis Cuarezma placed an ARRI 650-watt Plus Tungsten Fresnel Light behind boxer Devon Lee, then set his camera’s white balance at 6000 Kelvin “to make the picture extra warm.” A hazer machine set the scene aglow. All Photos © Alexis Cuarezma The imaginative, dramatic photographs of Alexis Cuarezma showcase the skills of an imaginative master of dramatic lighting. Naturally, he doesn’t see it that way. Well, the “master” part, anyway.

Now that's a nice piece of glass!
Part of the fun of the photokina show in Cologne, Germany this week is getting to actually touch and try much of the new camera gear that’s been announced in the past month.

We got our hands on this bad boy and, we have to say, Sony's A-series cameras are back with a bang!
Sony announced the long-awaited A99 II DSLR-style camera at photokina 2016 this week and Shutterbug was one of a handful of media outlets to get to shoot with a pre-production version of the camera. What was it like? Well, in a nutshell, it was fast!

For the photographer who has everything.
Venus Optics is a Chinese lens manufacturer that has been producing some unique and highly regarded lenses under its Laowa brand. But their new 24mm f/14 Relay 2X Macro lens, previewed at photokina, may have changed the meaning of “unique” forever—at least as far as optics are concerned.

Some serious action from GoPro.
If there were a Photokina Award for the greatest number of cool new products by an American manufacturer, GoPro would certainly be in the running. The innovative folks that put action cams on the map unveiled two new Hero5 cameras and their first-ever drone, along with some interesting accessories.

Think you know a thing or two about photographic lenses? Shutterbug columnist Jon Sienkiewicz has a fun but challenging quiz for you take over the weekend. Let us know how you did in the comments.
We couldn’t stump you with 13 general photography questions last week, so let’s see how you do on a lens quiz. Answers at the end—peeking is for haters only. 1. A catadioptric lens A. uses a design similar to the design of a cat’s eye. B. uses refractive glass and reflective mirrors to form images. C. is used primarily on night vision devices, like goggles. D. is used by eyeglass wearers to correct for nearsightedness.

We got to shoot with the one of the most talked about cameras at the photokina show in Germany this week. Read what we thought about Fujifilm's new medium format model.
Arguably, the biggest camera news at this year’s photokina show in Cologne, Germany was the announcement of the new Fujifilm GFX, a medium format mirrorless camera, which was unveiled to much fanfare on Monday. Shutterbug was one of a handful of media outlets to get our hands on a prototype of the 51.4-megapixel GFX and try it out for about half an hour in a conference room at the show.
