A long hiatus
It has been a very long time since I last posted - over a year! This has been a busy, joyous, and eventful year for me, and I'd love to share some snippets with you. Last January, I got engaged to the love of my life! He proposed on the top of Angel's Landi...

Review: The Flex Belt
This is not a typical post for me. I'm all about the healthy lifestyle, which to me means a combination of being active and being aware of what you're putting into your body. There are so many gimmicks out there that promise you a rock hard body, but I'm us...

Homemade Marshmallows
This is my favorite time of year. The days are still slightly warm, getting up to 65-75 degrees, but the mornings and nights are crisp and refreshing. The air just feels different. It becomes socially acceptable to wear flannel shirts (seriously the most co...

I took these with me on a trip recently, and they were so great to have around!
Granola bars are one of the best snack foods. They're portable, so it's easy to have one with you, no matter where you are. I like having them around when I'm traveling, and in my gym bag as a pre-workout snack (or post-worko...

Now even vegetarians can enjoy their own version of stroganoff!
Joey and I like watching most of the shows on The Food Network. One show we've started watching recently is "Beat Bobby Flay." I used to find Bobby Flay to be incredibly obnoxious and arrogant, so obviously the idea of someon...

Charlottesville Women's 4 Miler - 2014 Recap
I recently wrote a very belated post about the running I did in August, mostly emphasizing that I had barely done any! This was even with the extra effort I made to get in some miles in preparation for the Women's 4 Miler. I remember feeling unprepared last...

October Workouts
Here is another recap of all of the workouts I've done in the past month. Since it does appear that I'm getting back into a regular schedule, I'll try to do these more often. Then I can avoid giant posts like this! If you aren't interested at all in my runn...

Weekly Finds
I figured that this would have been completely overtaken by pumpkin, especially the desserts, but I was surprised that there were still a lot of other kinds of recipes. While yes, I do have 15 recipes that have pumpkin in them, I also have 7 recipes with ap...

Adjusting my plans (and why it's okay to do that)
Right around the time of the Women's 4 Miler , I decided that I wanted to train for a half marathon. I knew that my best bet would be the one in Richmond in November. I found a beginner training plan, and saw that I had just enough time to get through all o...

This is the perfect fall pasta dish!
I'm not sure how this recipe hasn't made it onto the blog yet, but here it is. This is one of our favorite fall pasta dishes (although you can make it all year round of course). I never would have thought to put these ingredi...

I have stayed at this hotel in the past, and didn't have problems with it, so chose to stay here this year. This time we only ran into problems. The hot tub wasn't working, and they kept on feeding us lies night after night. Most of the staff seemed incompetent, and some of the men were downright creepy. There were fire alarms going off multiple times, waking us up from our sleep. For 6 hours on one of the days, there was nonstop construction with a jackhammer, causing lots of noise, and the room wouldn't stop shaking. I WILL NOT BE STAYING HERE EVER AGAIN. I don't recommend that anyone else gives them any business.

I took my car here to get an inspection. I know that the car is older, and could potentially have trouble passing inspection, so I stressed that they call if anything came up. Several hours after dropping the car off, I got a call telling me that the car was ready to be picked up. When I came in to get the car, I first had to wait ~10 minutes until anybody could help me. Finally, someone took my name, and then informed me that I owed $969. I was of course taken aback by this, and he started to list all of the individual costs that added up to this huge amount. From the way he was listing them, and since I had been told the car was ready to be picked up, I assumed that all of these had been done without my consent. He disappeared, and brought someone else to talk to me. This person claimed that they had called and left a message (which never happened). He then told me that the car failed inspection, and there was a long list of things that needed to be done in order for it to pass, making it clear that nothing had actually been done to the car. I don't have any idea how someone could call me to tell me the car was done and ready to be picked up, when in actuality it had failed inspection, and they needed to get permission to do a lot of things. Since the car is 17 years old, and clearly not worth $1000, I decided against getting anything done. If I did decide to have the car fixed in order to pass inspection, there is NO WAY I would have let them do it. There was no communication prior to me getting to the center. The guy at the register was ready to charge me for something that hadn't even been done yet. I have been to several other car centers within Charlottesville, and I have NEVER had an experience like this. I tried going to several other places before coming here, but they weren't taking any more cars for state inspections. Now it's clear why there was no line here. DON'T EVER BRING YOUR CAR HERE.
