Terrific piece by KSTF Fellow Kate Miller on what it takes to prepare, support and sustain new teachers

Great one-page article in Science magazine about NGSS and the need to get teachers involved to " ground truth to the NGSS by determining the maximum number of disciplinary core ideas that can be covered in a single school year. while still leaving time for a productive focus on practices and cross-cutting ideas."  Plus calls for prioritization of core ideas and the development of ways to evaluate what's important, as opposed to what's easy to measure.

Yesterday, Philly.com published an op-ed I wrote arguing that teachers need  to be supported and treated like professionals:
PERHAPS FOR VERY different reasons, students and parents across Philadelphia are already counting the days until school starts. Both might be wondering who will be standing in front of the classroom.....

We just spent an amazing weekend with 36 dedicated advisers getting to know the finalists for the 2013 KSTFTeaching Fellowships. Expect the announcement of the newest cohort of fellows by mid-April. Thanks to everyone involved for their hard work!

USA Today published a letter I wrote recently in response to an article about new teachers leaving the profession.  The article points out that the modal # of years experience for teachers is 1, but doesn't really examine why that it is or why it might be a problem.
